So I picked up this goofy thing the other day for a song:
2013 or 2014 Trek Allant 7.
It has, quite possibly, the ugliest stem in the history of bikes. I don’t know what to do with it but if you can look past the poo brown paint (Trek calls it espresso, my wife calls it “forest service”) and the cheap components, it has some potential.
Maybe I can make a silk purse out of a sows ear…
Are there any 9 speed brifters out there that are compatible with V brakes?

I'm not sure why I do this to myself, but I always look through the dirt and rust and see something worth saving for no investment at all besides my time and a few parts. 1992 Trek 750 will make a nice city/light trail bike. And I always have a soft spot for older bike tools. The Helicomatic tool is a nice addition to the tool box.

Found this on garbage day. Put air in the tires and poured some gear oil on the chain. Bottom bracket will need some work but it's a better bike than my old one.

I got this frame from a local bike flipper that deals mostly in cheap kids bikes and big box store mountain bikes. Puch built Sears Ted Williams 10 speed, I think from the early 70s. alloy stem, bars, seat post , crank arms and chain rings. Seems to me like a lot of light weight parts for a bike with pressed steel dropouts. Not sure what I am going to do with it but couldn't go wrong for 5.00

Found a free late 60s Raleigh three speed on FB Marketplace. Seller says it's unrideable as it sat in a barn for 15 years. The seat is also torn in half length wise.

I got 2 "free" bikes today from a neighbor cleaning out her junk.
The first is a 5 speed Schwinn Jaguar repop. The paint on the bike is great, but it is missing a front wheel, and the stem and seatpost are stuck. I was able to get the seatpost loose this afternoon. The stem is still resisting my efforts. I'll let it sit for a day or two and try again. I had to cut the chain twice with bolt cutters in order to remove it.
The second bike is a RoadMaster Granite Peak. What more can I say about the pinnacle of Wal*Mart mountain bikes? It has both wheels, but no wheel nuts - must have been an interesting rider - I'd hate to hop a curb with it. Anyway, it will be the wheel donor for the Schwinn.
Fortunately my LBS owner helps out a charity that provides residence for women and children rendered homeless by abandoment or abuse. They accept reasonably repairable bicycles only needing tires, tubes, cables, and such.

Just found a decent Shogun 400 road bike with a paper marked "Free" taped to the seat at an apartment complex! I took it back to my apartment and pumped up the tires, which look quite new. It happily got up to 60 psi.
Otherwise, it looks like it needs oil on the chain, rear brake adjustment (it needs way too much pressure on the lever right now), and new bar tape, minimum. It's WAY lighter than my Collegiate (the Shogun has CrMo steel) so it should be nice for long trips. Pics soon.

Thanks!! I will post pictures soon. It seems the rear brake line is too tight, too loose, or stuck on something.

Looks like you just hit the 10 post threshold to be able to post pics. Get us some pics of this! I was able to revive the 3 speed sturmey archer gear hub on the one Raleigh 3 speed that passed through my hands by just flushing the hub with fresh gear oil and riding it around a bit. You might be able to do that and get it riding again. Those bikes were pretty bombproof.

The Cilo Pacer, this was a frame of mine that was sold as a covid builder. Built up and sold as pictured.
The builder may be buying a very fine Made in Seattle frame for a new build, ok maybe not so fine but a junky repainted repainter made in Seattle desperately seeking a vintage enthusiast :^)
