16 miles on the trail last evening. Started out at 1900 hrs in order to avoid the heat and the wind which is becoming incessant around here. I hate wind! Give me a good hill any day!

Nice cool temps this morning when we got out to the MUP. Overcast skies made for a real nice 30 mile ride until the head/side winds started picking up. We are suppose to have a front come our way tomorrow which brings the winds before the rain. I hope the rain comes in the afternoon and not the morning.

Rode 20 miles yesterday, 1000' of climbing (typical). This was the easy-day shop ride, but all the big kids showed up, the oldest of whom was maybe 20 years younger so I get dropped on the climbs. No problem, just character building. Turns out they were doing a pretty significant climb and I didn't have enough time thank goodness.

Didn't notice a tailwind, but I averaged almost 17mph riding ten miles to work this morning with quite a few red lights.
Definitely a headwind on the way home-->slower.

(actually it was only 12 miles with the fast kids, and then 9 miles each way to/from the start of the damn ride!)

Almost didn't ride today. Woke up to rain so I figured it was going to be a no ride day. Thirty minutes later, the skies were turning blue and the rain had stopped. I took advantage of the break in the rain and went to the MUP for my daily 30 mile ride. No riding until Tuesday as we are on the road this weekend and Monday will be spent trying to find some good riding places in Northwest Illinois.

Bill,

If I didn't have a lot to do today to get ready for our trip, I would be doing the same thing. Love all the L&O shows.

Had a crappy ride last night. I took the fixed gear out for the first time in almost a month and had no energy. Dinner was sitting heavy and I had a sour stomach. Bleh. I rode 18 miles though, and made it home, so there's that. Got a few decent photos too.

Had a nice 45 mile ride in Illinois from Chicago to Lake Forest and back. This ride had wind and rain and also had cooler weather than my other rides this month.

25 miles 98F, high humidity. OK as long as your rolling. Stopping is a different story. Only a few riders out today.

20 miles in this evening with the Team Fuji. Moderate winds and very comfortable temperatures. The Team Fuji is turning out to be a rather fun bike. Still haven't decided if I like the seat yet but the rest of the bike suits me well.

I had one of my grandsons graduate form preschool this morning (big event) so I didn't get out till early afternoon for 28 miles. It was hot but on our MUP there is a lot of shade and you just keep moving to keep comfortable.

9.9 miles on a new wayhome for commuting. Alonger commute, but faster, and a real tour-de-force of biking styles and conditions .

My longest ride in over 15 years

Started riding again last year after right hip replacement.
Had to go to UW-Madison for SOAR as our youngest is going to be going there next year in the School Of Engineering
Brought my bike along so I could ride home and what a great day it was. The temperature/humidity broke and it was in the high 60's when I left and 80 when I arrived home. Two stops for water and to give my Wife updates who was still there for some morning activities. My heading was East and the wind was out of the NW, almost perfect!!! Slept like a baby last night which is unusual for me.

WOOHOO!! Celebrated the Summer Solstice by taking my bike out at first light, and I finally just pedaled my way to the envirotech road, to get on the Great Confluence Trail, and off I went to the Melvin Price Lock and Dam! If I'd known I was going, I would have brought my borrowed digital clunker camera, and taken pictures. It was an adventure! (for me anyway) The power plant was much noisier than I expected, and the narrow steel-girder and wood-plank bridge over the Wood River was a tad more... exiting... for a guy with acrophobia, than I was prepared for.

Now that I know I can go and get back, I'll make the trip again, and get pics. At a little over 5 miles out, and a little over 6 miles back (due to grocery run that was the REAL purpose of my ride) in 1 1/2 hours, with much traffic-related stop-and-waiting, and 15 minutes searching the grocery store for 5 oz cups that weren't there , isn't bad for a guy who hasn't done a longish bicycle trip in years.
