Here’s a possibility. The factory couldn’t get the pedal on either and scratched up the crank trying. They set it aside and accidentally shipped it. Maybe the bike shop did nothing wrong. Order online to save a few bucks and get what you pay for.

Pedals, if they do come with the bike, are generally NOT installed when it goes in the box. Yes, it makes the box too wide but they also will punch out through the box and can cause more damage.

The issue with the right crank is probably one of two reasons:
1) The crank arm wasn't threaded correctly or had damaged threads

or

2) The bike shop that installed the pedals messed up some how. A good mechanic will NEVER force a part onto threads, period. If they did, they probably cross-threaded the pedal and ruined the threads on the crank arm.
