Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

In Belize, we grew our own pineapples. They came on in May, the month my wife always went north. I would sometimes have to eat three a day just to keep up. Thankfully they were small.

I only like mangoes with salty spicy stuff on em. Tajīn makes em pretty good. Full blown raspados even better.

Though I wasn't a big fan either, when I lived north. The Central American papaya is a different animal than the Hawaiian version. Mangoes, somewhat, too. Maybe it's just a matter of eating them fresh. The ones we get are way better than the big ones grown for shipping. Like bananas. The local ones are much more tasty than the commercial ones.

Don't they grow in South Florida? That's were I was exposed. And it didn't seem like they always came from the grocery store, either.

Dehydrated mango dusted with jalapeno powder... Same with watermelon, pineapple, apple, pears, and all the rest.. Delicious.

The most shocking thing about that report is that Jim Gardner is still on channel 6 news.

Love me some mango. My Indian office manager brings me great ones. No idea where they come from. Dried, with or without spicy-salty stuff is great too, but the Thai dessert with the slightly salty sticky rice reigns supreme for me.

Our governor extended stay-at-home orders through May 30.

Masks in public become mandatory starting May 1.

Additionally, some state parks are going to be opened up again and I got excited, but my local one is not on the list

As of yesterday, our schools are closed for the rest of the school year and it'll be only distance learning. The kid was pretty bummed when I talked to him about it, and a little resentful, but he understands the bigger picture.

We've still got that school-issued Chromebook sitting around, so I think that I'm going to set that up for him so that he can bring it up to his room, or outside or wherever, and video chat or game or whatever with his friends.

Oh, one other thing with the boy, and bike-related to boot - he's taken to riding laps in the back yard on his bike; it's kind of funny to watch. The lawn is maybe 30' x 40', so not big in terms of riding a bike, but I'm impressed with how dramatically the saddle time and tight maneuvering has improved his bike handling. He looks so much more comfortable on it now.

All sorts of bike-related content in that photo. A long sleeve shop jersey from Granada, Spain, that dates to 1998, size super grande, a Timbuk2 messenger bag, Orliteb Back Packer pannier, Kryptonite lock with cable and my new rain jacket.

It's really nice of Stephen to let you use his couch to put your stuff on.

He rarely get up there even when it's clear. But after I took the photo he started moving in the direction of the rain jacket. Moved it just in case he decided to try to file his nails on it. They need clipping. I don't have the nerve to try it myself.

I'm usually the bad guy in the house that trims the cats' nails. I should really do it more often but neither of us like doing it.

Frankie used to get on top of the cabinets all the time, when she was younger and smaller. She can still get up there, but just chooses to stay closer to the ground nowadays.

If our rascals had opposing thumbs, they wouldn't need us. They've always needed someone to unlock the door, and other tasks that are a little more difficult for them. Smart Home Technology worries me.

Jack, who passed in the fall, used to open doors all of the time when we lived in Brooklyn. Whenever we had guests over, we had to tell them to lock the door when they used the bathroom. Not everyone listened, though, and Jack walked in on a few people while they were in the middle of takin' care of business.

The little one in my avatar will sit outside the bathroom door and cry and yowl when someone is in the shower. If the door is open she will hop up on the tub ledge between liner and curtain and make a lot of noise. I think that she's gets concerned that there's so much water and someone is just standing in it
