Giro more drama with big climbs in the end
Dumo lost his guy lost his gut(potty gate) was not known for his climbing and still gutted (pun intended) it out on his own great race great win
I have always thought it a better race but full disclosure I have a vowel at the end of my name

The Belgian classics happening right now. Real racing. Niki Terpstra winning by a dozen seconds after going solo with 70 km to go. The scripted racing epitomized by US Postal/Discovery, then Sky does nothing for me. The Giro is far less scripted and much more fun to watch. Milan-San Remo, watching a climber/three week stage racer put it to the sprinters.
Also the racing we don't see. The key move in Contador's TdF victory. (The Andy Schleck "chaingate" year.) Contador's epic ride, virtually all solo after getting caught behind a crash early on in the cobbled stage, then choosing to race on alone rather than wait for a wheel change. Riding that damaged wheel the entire rest of the stage, he caught the group behind Schleck and working with them (until his wheel started failing and rubbing badly in his brake) to bring that group to within a minute. (Schleck and company knew well that Contador had misfortune and were riding their pants off to put the Tour away.)
I guess, in short, the racing NBC does not bring us.

Anything involving climbing that splits the peleton apart.
I'm not a big fan of watching guys ride to not lose. Watching someone race to win is much more entertaining.

i tend to enjoy the "race(s) within the race" aspects of the gt's vs the one day races or short(ish) tours but it's all good.
the one days are amazing in the fact that the riders leave little to nothing in the tank by race's end and there are incredible
performances. the gt's seem/tend to generally reward endurance over the long haul through varied terrain/weather/distances/tactics
and the occasional incredible performance is more so because of the sheer brutality of it all.

all that said...i prefer animators. guys that start and occasionally finish bleep. guys that aren't afraid to go out with more than 20 kms left.
guys that ride not to follow wheels but fbow, detonate the race. bettini. durand. contador. gva. gilbert. d millar. vino. pantani. virenque. simoni.
unfortunately, many of these animators have historically transgressed on the wrong side of uci regs/laws once or twice. c'est la vie.

All the Monuments. I like really hard selective races of attrition with multiple layers of strategy, where the winners can barely stand up afterwards from all the suffering.

Well, there are only three Grand Tours of which the TDF is one. I like them all. Enjoyed the Veulta the most in 2017 but missed all of the Giro last year.
However I enjoy most any of the tours, grand or not. The AmGen tour of Califonia was also reasonably interesting last year as were the UCI championships.
I lean toward any of the road cycling type endurance events as I somewhat can figure out and understand the various strategies. I enjoy watching some of the mtn bike stuff and bmx stuff like at the x-games which leaves me a bit flabbergasted and amazed at the things they do, but I don't understand it so I don't follow it closely.
I'm pretty much hampered by what I can see on NBCSN or NBC sports gold. As well by the time I watch the stuff on there that interest me, I don't have the time to look for any other cycling broadcast or youtube.

I like all the cobbled classics. I thought this year's Strade Bianche was pretty epic. I enjoy the smaller one week stage races. Seems like they are a little looser. More riders willing to take risk they wouldn't do in the big grand tours. I do like the grand tours as well. Heck I seem to like all the races. However, I don't care to watch ITT or TTT. They just don't do anything for me. Kind of like the drum solo of bike races.

World championship road race is probably my favorite. Different course each year.
But i do like the classics ,the monuments ,grand
Tour mountain stages and Paris Nice but not the grand tour transition stages in general but some times they surprise if it is windy or wet

I just watched a race I had never heard about (that is not too surprising), Tro-Bro Leon. Takes place in Brittany. They call it the "mini-Roubaix" and the "hell of the west". Mostly a French affair with lesser known teams and riders. It has everything...hills, cobbles, crappy gravel dirt single lane farm roads over 200 km. Rain near the end meant riders were slipping and sliding. Great action. I'd put it in my top 3 single day races I've seen this year.

cyclocross racing is my favorite...I will watch road racing if I see it on but I don't search it out as I just don't find it all that exciting.
