Nishiki Rockhound
Hi, I am looking at a Neshiki Rockhound on eBay and was wondering if someone can help me with its approximate year of manufacture. It's a dark red/maroon with a black front fork. Frame is chromoly not sure about fork and there is a Neshiki Canada sticker on the front of the head there's also a 20" frame size sticker on the top of the top tube, 21 speed, Deore LX rear mech, twist grip shifters brakes are center pull. Don't have frame number at this point. Hope you can help. Cheers

you should go to the classic and vintage and search or post there. Tmar and others know their stuff. You would need more information on the bike for a proper answer and a minimum of a picture
Grip shift did not come out until 1987-89 not sure on the date
The sought after frames from Nishiki were built by Kawamura which stopped making them in 87
I do n ot know the Rockhound bike nor do I remember it
Giant made bikes as well as other manufacturers post Kawamura that were well received the Alien would be one example
With grip shift and deore lx it is a low to mid build lx was discontinued in 93
Current Nishiki America see Dicks Sporting goods is crap
Euro Nishiki ie Scandinavia is a decent brand
Old and real Nishiki are a WCC brand
Either way it is probably not valuable and best suited as hybrid bike today. Just like my 1986 GT Backwoods
