My favorite contemporary artist is Lady Gaga. And for classic rock it is hard to beat The Rolling Stones or The Who.

I play classical piano and currently taking lessons. I am working on Bach’s Italian Concerto. My teacher loves this piece. She has been playing it for over 50 years. It is torture but a totally interesting and challenging piece with interesting rhythms. I love playing in Bach’s Baroque style with distinct voices interacting. I recently finished Bach’s Art of the Fugue Contrapuctus I

I also like Bach’s Goldberg Variations. There are a lot of other composers whose music I play and listen to but Baroque music is my favorite right now.

LOL, I'll be that guy. I do all the time. Can't hear cars for the wind noise anyway so why not. I ride solo also. I do wear a rear view mirror though and find that works much, much better for what's approaching behind me.

In fact my decision has been cemented ever more this year by the times I've take the Guv'nor out on cruises with no music, and no helmet or mirror. Even riding at around 14 mph vs my usual 18/19 mph I still don't hear the cars until they are passing due to wind noise in my ears. It's those days I miss my mirror. Now the difference is on a road bike I'm on the road but with the Guv'nor I tend to ride the bike path that parallels the 50mph sections of road that's part of my normal route.

Let the hate begin, LOL!!!!

My tastes are varied but there's a few that'll pick as my favorites that I love pretty much everything they've done:

Clannad - So amazing
AD/DC - Simple rock that delivers
Porcupine Tree and Steven Wilson's other works - Amazing music, all of it.
Concrete Blonde and Johnette's other work - Why she wasn't absolutely huge I don't know
Natalie Imbruglia - When you need happy!
Within Temptation/Blue Indigo - Voice of an angel mixed with symphonic rock and then her sweet solo effort

Used to bike ~25mi to the pier to go fishing, during the early mornings. (And 25mi back, of course.) Summer of '78, IIRC. Invariably, the guy who camped out at "his" spot on the pier had his portable radio tuned to one of the cool local radio stations. Rafferty's "Baker Street" tune was frequently played. To this day, from a few notes into the song, hearing it still transports me back to the ride and the pier fishing.

Talent seems to have little to do with success sometimes doesn't it. Some 70's / 80's artists who IMO should have been bigger:

Paul Collins Beat, Gary Myrick, 4 Out of 5 Doctors, HooDoo Gurus, Rank & File,

+ these...

Holly Beth Vincent & the Italians

Romeo Void

The Ocean Blue (should have got a better name)

Last summer we visited Reds Rocks in Denver for the first time to see the Tedeschi-Trucks Band. We were so stoked to be there and hear the music. But alas, the sound system they're using sucks. It was a disappointing, very expensive experience. We'll never go back. Later in the summer Sting played at Kit Carson Park in Taos and the sound there was fine. I think that Red Rocks makes their money on EDM (electronic dance music) and it blows out the sound system. It also irritates neighbors for miles around the venue. Our sound system at home is great and the only neighbors nearby are grazing in the pasture behind us.
Back in the ‘90s I watched a concert on PBS- The Moody Blues live at Red Rock. It was an awesome venue. I want to go in person.

Aging fart, here, but much of that is on my own playlist, actually. With some Bad Company, Moody Blues, Pink Floyd, Jefferson Airplane/Starship, Heart, Steely Dan, early R.E.O. Speedwagon, Styx, ... Ah, the '70s were good.

The thing that stands out for me about a song like Baker Street is that it was released when FM radio was king. Everybody was listening to it. It was part of our collective conscience. If you grew up back then, a song like that becomes part of you, because it was everywhere.

I think the '70s remain the best decade for rock.

I'd have to add the 60's, also... Jimi, Janis, The Cream, Coltrane, the endless outpourings from the souls of many musicians, an endless list of greats from that time...

...but when I'm in the place where I feel most alive - the mountains - my soul draws to a singular voice, sound - that voice might vary...
on a recent backpack in the sierras, after setting camp near an unnamed lake in the Tablelands, I sat in wonder, watching the sunset.
pulled out my cell and played an offering from Tress - the Dark Isle Piper
then Siubhail, and then The Gael
immersed in my insignificance and overjoyed in 'being' at all...
life is good!

That's okay. It's all good. Saturday Night Fever is a fantastic film and an even better soundtrack.

Though, I'd rather listen to those David Bowie or Neil Young albums from the middle of the decade.
