nick a,
The rules were established for members with 150 posts, because at that level Private Messages (PM's) are able to be sent and received. I suspect if you participate in a few threads, including posting in this one you should be at the right post level to play soon. Keep posting and watching this thread. Smiles, CrapMaster Honk

Throw me back in the puddle.
Hoping someone between now and then pulls some skewers and adds some good spokes.

It appears there has been a hic-up in the movement of the exalted Box O' Crap and if it is not rectified today the BOC will return to me before leaving on it's appointed duties to all players. At this time it is a bit of playground monitoring, but It should not occur among adult players. Please either abide by the rules or step aside with some bit of grace. CrapMaster Honk
The BOC shall come to me here and be re-directed to the next player. It appears I will be a player even inadvertently as it arrives here. Perhaps for a refresh. Now Zorro; you gotta be a bit more specific about the spoke sizes you need, I may not be able to get them in the box, kinda like the request for a frame in the BOC. CrapMaster Honk

That aluminum liner is just some race car sheeting that can be straightened repeatedly. Take a small hammer to the dents and dings to get the liner straight again. It makes reloading the parts a bit easier, and sign the liner while you have it out for repairs. Smiles, CrapMaster Honk
Here's my take:
The stem will save me from certain death on my upcoming PX10 build. The cable guide is destined for my TX-700 frame that lacks braze-ons and the skewers will improve the matchey-matchiness of a couple of bikes.
I couldn't possible comment on what was added to the box.
After a lengthy rest in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains, the box is back in the tender hands of the USPS.

OK Crap-A-Teers,
The Exalted Box O' Crap has come back to me for a refresh and a reset after a hic-up in the player roster. It will be here for at least three days to do some rehab of the mess that is in the BOC. I am not sure that four broken cyclo-computers qualify for useable items but more like fodder for my trash can. So I will post my take later after much rehab and work to get the BOC in order again. Here are the as received pictures:
Box as it came from the postal carrier. Survived the trip pretty well.
Quick reveal after removing folders and paperwork.
A better picture with hopefully better focus. Zucchini pie plate is still in the Box.
The new Box O' Crap bike sticker must be a popular item there are only a few left in the box. I will restock them with a supply to last more than a few months. Smiles, CrapMaster Honk.

Fellow Crap-A-Teers,
it has come to my attention that one of our fellow members @ deux jambes has been locked out of the forum for a short time. Due to circumstances beyond his control he has now resurfaced as @ Dirt Road Blues with all of his post count lost. So as CrapMaster, I hereby declare that Dirt Road Blues be credited with 100 posts toward his ability to play the BOC game again. When his post count gets to 50 he will be eligible to participate. Welcome back Matt! Smiles, CrapMaster Honk

Fellow Crap-A-Teers,
I have refrained from creating this post for a couple of days to say it correctly. When the game was conceived, a set of rules were put in place. They have been modified from time to time to accommodate things like the postal slow down during Covid. But the rules still have the same basic premise behind the inclusion to be able to play. It has always been an objective to help other forum members out with a gem or missing piece that they might be looking for. However as of late some of our players seem to have either not read the rules or have chosen to not follow them. Specifically the case of borked or non working items, and disregard for the Karma advice on page one. So tonight I am going to have to be the playground monitor for the players of the game.
I have sorted through the BOC as it came to me, and there are more than a few broken or non-working items in the box. This is the third time in a mere ten months of the game for the box needing to be culled and refreshed. The first time Lynn called me and told me that the box was full of junk and that he would just send it along and take nothing as it wasted his time. I contacted the next player and sent in a refresh of useable parts. So I am asking the players to be self disciplined enough to kindly put in only working or useable parts. It has not been a good couple of days for me to repair the parts that came in broken or missing pieces. Roughly four hours of time to replace missing parts and make the parts useable again. Here are the pictures of the broken items that came in the BOC. I am pretty sure that no one playing would like to get items in this condition. It is my intention to have the game be one of fun and trading of good used parts among the BOC crowd.
Broken teeth on jockeys rendering it useless
Missing jockeys again unusable
Missing jockeys again useless
4 broken and non-functioning cyclo-computers, toe clips for 600 pedals single items like top cap and brake lever
two front cages that are questionable for use, broken water bottle cage and a hub set missing parts
Thread-less stem single hub and Mt. bike stem working parts but questionable for use by C&V members
There were three rear d's with missing jockeys, I cannot locate the correct jockeys for one and will send it to a player at a later date after I re-habilitate it. I am taking the one seized left handed 600 pedal with out toe clip and the two left hand v brake arms that are a complete miss match in the box. I have once again added enough good parts for the box to continue along it's way and take out some junk. Players please read and abide by the rules posted on the first page. End of my Rant. Thanks for continuing to wrangle the herd Mad Honk. (And thankfully nothing I put in the box got called out.) I will make one comment about stuff that's technically not usable, well, perhaps two. One, if parts that aren't immediately usable still have usable parts on them, then I'm not worried about their inclusion. In the particular case of the two demonstration rear derailleurs, they are easily spiffed up with a cheap set of Shimano pulleys, which can be done on the way into or out of the box. Two, if you have something of better condition than, say, those four non-functional cyclocomputers, then IMO it would be fine to replace them with some better crap and either send the lesser part(s) into your scrap metal bin or scavenge it/them for small parts with no obligation to use them in a future BoC-supported bike. That said, this is just my opinion. I defer to Mr Crapmaster.

Skip,
I would concur about the derailleurs, however the only jockeys available are at my co-op and the LBS's do not have them. They have been rehabbed and returned for use somewhere down the line. I normally would give a pass, but the fact there were multiple ones included has created a bit of needed fix before the box moves along. I just want the players to be aware that they are SELF monitoring and I should not have to be doing the rehab work to make thing use-able. Again a rant about human nature. Smiles, CrapMaster Honk

I was new to the BOC game and I greatly appreciated being able to take part. I took a few bits and left behind some very, VERY nice stuff. I posted some camp (silly) photos of the exalted reveal and generally had fun with it. I had a small pile of stuff I planned to add and the tipping point was the question, “Is it useful?” Not all of what I added was C&V but it was excellent or new things and seemed to be appreciated by subsequent Crapateers.
The BOC walks a fine line. Schwinn Twin-Stick shifters are barely worth my time tossing them in the recycle bin but others would LOVE to have ‘em! Broken/borked parts are a waste of others time for sure.
Small-ish verbal diarrhea from me but do not tarnish the BOC as a recycle bin. I defer to the exalted Crapmaster but if you participate, place stuff in the BOC that is not actual crap. Place stuff in there that down the road some body may see and say “SWEET! I’ve been looking for one of these!”.
Crapmaster - edit my comments as you see fit.

Oh illustrious Crapmaster please allow me to add on to what @RustyJames said. For me, the best part of this game was seeing almost everything I put in the BoC get claimed quickly. I've been saving parts to give away that were in very good condition but that I knew I would not use, I figured the BoC was the best way to do it. Yes, I was able to pull out a few things I needed/wanted, but I would have put the parts into the bin even if I took nothing out. As with a number of us, I also did a junk toss to get some broken parts out and make room for parts that I thought would be appreciated.

Over the years, I've come to appreciate that the folks of C&V come at the hobby with a variety of perspectives. Some folks completely dis-assemble and re-assemble relatively complex components (rear-derailleurs, indexed shifters, etc), while others are not inclined to. Some strive to put together concourse-worthy builds, while others want good performance, and yet others are happily getting clunkers back on the road. There's nothing wrong with tossing an otherwise-working derailleur of decent quality that lacks a jockey into the BOC, but if it joins two or three similarly lacking items, the result will likely be disappointment down the line. A brake caliper lacking pads or an adjuster or a securing washer... cool. A frozen Chen Shang... pass.
My experience is that the box is usually packed to the brim - which makes re-packing a challenge. In light of recent experiences related with regard to the box, I intend to modify my habit of being a slave to cramming every single thing that came in the box (which I did not take) back in before posting it forward. I think that this, and throwing in a couple small, craptastic items that will fit in, tends to contribute to a creeping eventual critical mass of "blah".

I was new to this game. I am the guilty party for the 600 clips. They were small, fit in the box, not broken, vintage, not duplicate of anything else and probably only 3 because I had recently supplied one to another forum member ISO. One of the parts I removed was a seat post with a replacement clamping bolt and inappropriate nut but the other had exactly what I needed as a replacement on my seat post to make it whole again. I'm not trying to be argumentative but explaining that I evidently misinterpreted the game when I signed up. I'll respectfully request my name be removed from the list.

In the past, I've put in some obscure small items with a bit of hesitation - wondering if anyone would take them. As often as not (I'll grant that numbers smaller than 10 are a very small sample size statistically speaking), within about three stops, those items had been claimed.
Granted, a near-mint Campagnolo Veloce 9-speed rear derailleur or a decent Cinelli stem is a surer bet to make someone's day, it isn't realistic to expect every item will be a lost treasure from Aladdin's cave. I've pulled out single brake levers, single calipers and single hubs before and put them to good use. Simple things like a claw hanger could be just the thing someone down the line needs to finish a build,

I was thrilled to take a cracked mirror that was missing some of the mounting hardware because I had a good mirror and the complementary bits to go with it. I'd had the mirror for a long time, but couldn't use it because of the missing parts.

It is likely time to put this discussion to bed. I posted to bring attention to the rules and not to call any player out. We all can find $25 worth of pleasure in the BOC, and we need to think about whether the items in the box will be useful to a fellow member.
The BOC will move again on Monday to the next recipient. It has a refreshed supply of BOC bike stickers and is ready for the play to resume. Smiles, CrapMaster Honk

So a bit of the dust has cleared here in the shop. A week of being a golf coach and two first place finishes and one fourth so I get a bit of a break from that and can get back to being a bike guy. I am posting my take today and also a few bits that came in while restocking the BOC. My take:
Everything I took out of the box. Four non-working cycle computers, two old school FD's, some mismatched v-brake arms. two pitted out bb cups, a cable & housing, and some toe clip straps. I took a top mount shifter set destined for Bwilly's bike, a seized pedal, and a bottle cage that was broken.
The lh seized pedal matched the rh seized one I got at my co-op, maybe they can be re-habbed this winter.
The co-op gave me this blue anodized stem missing a binder bolt, and a pile of nuts for the skewers in the BOC.
The co-op also saved a few bits for me, in the Flite saddle box. A campy RD that went into the BOC at Mt. Dave's, a superbe FD For me, and a shifter missing parts. The cyclone RD is for Bwilly's bike. They also saved a pair of superbe binders because they know I will refurbish them and make them into a good set.
They also saved this Campy RD that is good for parts only that can go to any member here that wants it. I am not going to try to repair it.
So my take was small in terms of good crap, but I removed some trash, and my co-op made up for the small take by getting most of the parts needed for the Raleigh from Brian. I have added things I trust players will use and find a bit of excitement in finding. Smiles, CrapMaster Honk
