And also ... a Teval

In June 2015 mrs non-fixie and I were at the Retroronde van Vlaanderen, where I noticed this beautifully restored bike. I'd never heard of the brand, but it looked quite interesting, so I took a picture:

Two days later fellow Retroronde participant Munny posted this on this very forum in the Belgian Bikes thread: Last christmas...

Ever since I've kept an eye out for a Teval in my size, knowing the chances of ever finding one were close to zero.

Fast forward to July 6th 2022. I went to pick up a Jabo frame I'd just bought, and the seller mentioned he had something else that might be of interest. Would I perhaps like a 61.5cm Teval randonneur frame?

Yes, I would.

It needs a lot of TLC, but if I ever looked forward to a winter project it is this one. While I go search for more information on the brand - all I know now is that Edouard Teval worked for Plume Sport before starting his own shop - I will leave you with these first pictures.

...one o' me favourite marques!

---

me poor noggin nearly shipped its moorings upon sighting those lugs

first thought "those look to be Agrati "ROMA" but where are the points"

builder took stock Agrati "ROMA" pattern (ART. 000.8020/U) head lugs and removed the points. upper is N. 000.8024; lower is N. 000.8023.

here they are in their stock configuration on a Garlatti:

seat lug is an unmodified Agrati "ROMA" N. 023.8059

Based on what I've found so far it is safe to say that this frame was built by Plume Sport, Edouard Teval's former employer. The "PS", followed by a four or five-digit number is typical for Plume Sport, including the jaunty angle at which the numbers have been punched into the BB shell. The serial number indicates it was built in 1967.

now that you have a specific date you could make a build plan employing contemporaneous fittings if wished

Any commentary on the lugset and crown on the turquoise Teval in the first pic?

Would be very non-Non-Fixional not to post pictures of the progress of this build so I guess the project's on the back burner?

Well, not so much back burner as wel as a lack of available burners in general at the moment. Starting in a new job last January has left me little time to work on bikes.

If only time is the problem, take a shortcut and visit the Belgian "craigslist"
