Question DIY Bicycle Roller Advice Needed

Hello Users,
I want to ask that according to physics the cylinder with more diameter has larger moment of interia because of its mass is more spread out. So If I make my rollers with 4 inch steel pipe with a rough outer surface will be ok for resistance or what if I make my rollers with 3 inch steel pipe with a rough outer surface. There are some websites they also tell 2.25 inch diameter roller but I think 3 inch is enough.

Kreiter makes some very nice rollers and has done so for years.
On their support page they list their rollers and approx. wattages to use them.
Roller diameter decides the wattage required. Take a look at the data, it's quite clear and may help you.

HERE IS THE LINK

Oh, I do run power meters on my bikes. I'm not great on rollers and in order to become stable I need to run 80-90watts on 4.5" Kreitler rollers.

All the best

Barry

I think Barry2 has given you the information you need, but here's one thought - steel rollers with a "rough outer surface" are probably going to eat tires.

I don't think that typical iron pipe has a particularly rough outer surface. But I'm not sure what the OP intends to use.
