Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

That was brisk! The winds were 20MPH and it was chilly, but still beats the trainer. On an ordinary Sunday we would have 6-12 riders. Today it was just me and one other.

There is a custom Calfee on ScamBay that I have been “watching” for over a year. Its geometry looks very close to mine (which is probably why no one bought it yet). I don’t really need this but if someone gave it to me I would take it. The asking price is 1399 (OBO)+ 60 shipping. I believe this is “worth” something more like $800 but even that price I would not buy it. Any advice on making a super lowball offer like $200?? I don’t want to piss off the seller, but if they really want to sell it I would certainly take it for that.

ps Link to listing https://www.ebay.com/itm/13355359634...mis&media=COPY

The overnight low was 38, and it's supposed to get up to 65. Right now it's about 46. I'm aiming for the right balance of not freezing at the start of the ride and not overheating by the end. There's only so much you can peel off and stuff in jersey pockets!

Just make an offer that's $50 below your absolute maximum. If they take it, great. If they counter within $100 of that, hit them with your maximum as a counter. Don't worry about pissing them off. They might have set an auto-reject below a certain dollar amount. You'll know, if the offer is rejected instantly.

I moved in 1999 and my commute went from a 1 hour drive to a 2 1/4 hour (on a good day) drive. After 5 years or so, I transferred and then it became a 10 minute bike ride.

So we had a guest rider on a ride this summer. Young guy, apparently the BF of one of our semi-regular’s daughter. He was clearly a very strong cyclist, yet he observed the vibe of our ride and only took off once, when we told everyone it was the big climb of the day and gave permission for people to go faster if they wanted. He really took off then!

I heard he did the Philly marathon today in 2:37, so confirms he is the real deal.

can you describe the squat routine you are doing? Because of multiple health issues, I haven't been able to ride for almost 2 years. I think I can do squats without any added weights to gain some strength. I might be well enough some day and at least I'll not be starting at zero.

Thanks.

No worries. I’m just doing 100 body squats a day for 30 days. No weight. I do it all in one set but there’s nothing wrong with splitting it up into sets as needed.

It’s the 3000 squats in 30 days challenge, one of the guys from gcn has a video on it. If you search squats/gcn it should come up.

On days that I ride I do the squats at night before bed, on days I don’t ride I do them first thing in the morning. I plan on making this part of my routine, but going months on month off, as well as adding 5 pounds each on month or maybe 10 pounds if I am feeling crazy.

Day 4 is the worst but after that, It doesn’t seem to hard or bad. Having my wife and daughter watch me and make fun of me is the hardest part.

The wind is howling here too. My wife just went out for a run. I’m going to the basement to Zwift away and watch football.

Laundry is done, food is in the crockpot, the little one is napping and I got 1KM in the pool this morning. Not bad by my standards for 2PM.

Oh, oh, oh, I had visions of a loaded bar and a lot of grunting! Still sounds terrible, but you’re young.

I actually messaged the seller with a request. He said no and did not make a counter offer.

I don’t really want it that badly, although it looks great for my size, the Habanero is fine for me and I still have the Roubaix as a backup road bike. May reconsider in the future.

A new Dragonfly is $6900 for the frameset plus $750 for custom geometry plus custom paint charge. So, about $8000 for that frameset if you bought it new.

Agree. But I don’t want/need it that badly atm. So maybe it deserves a better owner.

did some hills today. 6,116 feet, 64.03 miles. heart rate was in the dumps for the first 2/3 of the ride (average for whole ride, 96, average for first 2/3, 93). legs were NOT happy.

I like it, but I am a Dave Tesch fan. I am not a fan of buying used bikes, however. I don't know what I would get if I bought a new bike.

The new paint jobs are pretty sweet. Interesting they don’t sell the frame disc, only rim brake.

heart condition, meds. but that's suboptimal even for me, would like to be 15% higher than that and usually am. almost a direct correlation with power at that point. but it was still a beautiful day for a ride!
