worth bringing my road bike to bandon dunes?
i’m going on a couple day road trip with a few buddies who are golfing at bandon dunes. i don’t golf, but the rest of the day will have plenty of socializing.
is it worth bringing a bike? i’ve only ridden around san francisco and a bit up in tahoe. i enjoy road rides, 30-80 miles, no more than 100’ of climbing per mile. i see a lot of cycling resources around oregon but interestingly not many rides in that section of the coast, e.g. jay’s Home Page - Jay's Essential Bike Rides

Bandon is just a short ride down PCH from the golf club and there you'll have all kinds of things to check out, especially down on the wharf. Best fish and chips on the Oregon coast. If it were me, I would take it, but I would also bring along rain gear haha.

thanks! yeah, if the forecast is for rain i won't bother.
was thinking more along the lines of long rides in hilly forests without any cars or people... looking at RwGPS heatmaps, definitely not many cyclists up there lol.

There is a 'bike route' that heads south out of Bandon and begins down on the wharf. It runs between the ocean and the highway for a few miles and is very scenic. But coming out of the golf course there is very little except for the highwy to ride. And as for weather, well, this is winter. Even when there is sunshine predicted we have coastal rain/mist that will soak you in minutes. Enjoy

Are there any hiking options? With questionable highways and unfriendly weather I'd be looking for a plan b.

During the summer you'll see a lot of cyclists on 101 and the state even has it listed as a 'bike route'. But you're absolutely correct, the shoulders are narrow and sometimes non-existent. I ride it quite a bit and while most drivers and especially the commercial trucks are very 'kind' there is also no shortage of butt-wipes that hog the fog line and then some, especially grandpa with his 45' coach and full sized pickup iin tow. haha

The road from Powers to Glendale is epic. Powers is a bit of a drive from Bandon though.
