You should consider upgrades for the current bike AND a new bike. A bike that has 50,000 miles deserves respect.

Nothing useful to add - just noting that I had not previously been aware that there's a bike called a Surly Long Haul Trucker.

It has been THE touring bike in their lineup for quite awhile, and has a very big fan-base. They also have a disc version.

In my opinion, the LHT and the Salsa Marrakesh are neck-in-neck for the title of Best Touring Bike, although Trek 920 is also nice, and Co-Motion offers some really great stuff, at a much higher price point.

I have a Soma Saga frame and built the bike up from that, so I guess I have no skin in this. But I had the 520 for quite some time, and it was pretty nice. The new one with the Al fork leaves me scratching my head, and the component set looks a bit sketchy.

If I were in your shoes, I would keep the frame and install a new SRAM NX Eagle groupset. For this groupset, Microshift makes a bar end shifter that can be used on your drop bars.
