Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yes I am qualified to comment.

Of the 11 motorcycles I've had 8 have been ducati... My fiancee is Italian... and I am currently looking for an Italian Vintage or Race bike as we speak. I will admit, it is not because how much better they (they aren't) but rather how much better you THINK they are because of where they come from. Italian craftsmanship is disappearing and anything they can do Japan / Taiwan and even china can do and sometimes even better.

Ok, This post seems a little hater. I love italian stuff, don't get me wrong. I do however think that they arent better. By now they have just become a preference of style rather than performance. And you can't tell me that they are the only ones that build with passion because other places do too.

Get a grip. I have D.A. Di2 10 speed on two bikes, and it's like thought shifting.

Actually, his Mavic Aksiums are currently Shimano 11 ready. Just don't use the extra Mavic spacer.

Well of course in your particular case you could simply upgrade the shifters and derailleurs to 9070 and baby let me tell you it can be better ! I had no problem selling my 9000 stuff.

I haven't had the opportunity to try the EPS, would love to have always been a fan but for some reason the rear der body reminds me of a sausage

I don't know why anybody would be surprised that a Campy product works really well, even if you did prefer Shimano. They'd be out of business if it didn't at the prices they charge.

While I'm not in the electronics era yet, I've been using Chorus 10 for almost 10 years now. I recently rented a road bike that had Ultegra 10 on it and much prefer the Chorus. Does that surprise anybody? The shifting on my road bike is still so solid after 10 years, and I'm so accustomed to it, why would I even consider anything else? Was the Ultegra bad? No, but to me it was backwards. If I'd been riding Ultegra, the Campy would be backwards.

I did try a bike with 105 9 speed once, my daughter's bike. That I found to be not so great. It just wasn't crisp. I should put it on the stand and see if I can adjust it so that it shifts a little better. She doesn't ride it enough to complain.

This is incorrect, especially given your handle. Please, please don't say you have anything other than Campy on your Bianchi.

Nice dude! Seems like you and I are very similar . Spot on, on the head down comment. I got another bike after the 1199 went belly up and now I ride an old beater for the sake of having fun and getting better.

Head is a little lower but still gotta work it. I'm sure it's better now that I've lost some weight and neck flexibility is back!

Some of you have families and still ride those suicide machines? I think I'll pass on doing those speeds without a cage around me... danger by road bicycle is more than Ill ever need. I still think about getting a little 250 to mess around on but those things top out at what, road bike speeds? Maybe I've just heard one too many 'lost my buddy this weekend' stories from the streetbike crowd.

250s are not as slow as u'd think. I managed to put 102mph indicated on this thing

and 70mph on the 50cc in the vid below

This is going to sound a whole lot like addiction, but if you start riding and it takes...you're always going to want to go out and ride. Riding on a track, particularly tracks designed with bikes in mind, is surprisingly safe, but the risk definitely isn't for everyone. Riding on the street, a lot of factors are common between bicycles and motorcycles before even getting to the speed/stupid factors, which is to say: plenty dangerous.

And lsberrios, agreed on Ducati ownership- they aren't good value or particularly faster than anything else, but they're so much fun to ride and such an involving experience.

I have 2013 Campy EPS. If I had it to do all over again, I would not have spent the money. I would've stuck with the Campy 10 speed it replaced. EPS is nice, but pricey -- almost $4800, including labor -- for shifting that's a little quicker and more precise. With that said, it did not initially shift as well as the gruppo it replaced. It needed to be re-calibrated; there was a certain amount of flutter as the system tried, for certain gears, to place the chain between two cogs. And, because there's no way to trim it, I had to avoid certain gears -- that is, until I found an LBS that knew how to calibrate it. So it now shifts properly. Still, I don't think it's worth the money, at least for a recreational rider like me.

Straight up trade my 7900 for your EPS? I'll throw in a couple cases of rockstar, flavor of your choice! lol
