early 80's aero bars
do these Scott aero bars/specialized stem have any value or are they just recycling bin material? thanks.

Clean up the stem, people want those. The bars have a minor market, check solds on eBay.

Historically significant, those are Scott DH handlebars, the first commercially available aerobar. Introduced in late 1988 and manufactured until cira 1991, initially they were Scott's only UCI legal aerobar and could be quite flexy in certain situations. Installing the plastic bridge accessory helped. Orignally, these sold for ~$70 US.
Unfortunately, they were not OEM spec on very many bicycles and there's not much interest in C&V equipment by triathletes. Most cyclists building a C&V time trial bicycle prefer the bull horn plus clip-on areobar route, as popularized by Greg Lemond. Consequently, like other members, I suspect they will be a hard sell and I'd also suggest removing and selling the stem separately.

When those Scott bars first came out the local LBS mechanics I worked with immediately started calling them elephant IUD's.
Not long after that lots of shops had bikes in for major repair when the tri-heads decided they needed to be in a full tuck at all times and crashed. Very flexy in front, hard to steer easily. Best use would be the road from Kona to Hawi and back (Ironman Hawaii route) where the road has very few turns.

I unboxed a couple more from my past lol. A set of cinelli spinaci bars and probably the first edition Profile bars. this would have been early 90's.

The reason this stem has value is it has a bunch of rise and slope angle that is just right for a nicer drop bar conversion on a older MTB.

I bet you could sell those bars for $30 to $50 Plus shipping on E-Bay. It may take a little while, but they'll sell.

The Profile bars are the Aero II model. The Aero I were similar to the Scott DH, in that they replaced the drop handlebars.They came with a tubular bridge and were less flexy than the Scott DH. The Aero I came out in late 1988, shortly after the Scott DH. The Aero II became available in the spring of 1989.

If you think there will be a fair amount of interest, set it up as an auction and it will sell in a week. If you expect more sporadic interest, pick a price and use "buy-it-now" for a fixed price sale.
Description is key. Both Scott and Profile Design made similar triangular bars. So, one can use judicious key words.
I'd try each set of aero bars separately.
Pretty much anything will sell on E-Bay.
If you think there will be a fair amount of interest, set it up as an auction and it will sell in a week. If you expect more sporadic interest, pick a price and use "buy-it-now" for a fixed price sale.

Get your $35 for the stem here on BF and you may even find a taker on the bars for the price of shipping. You’ll rest easy with a 1/2 tank of gas in your buggy and the satisfaction of passing those bars along to someone who just might use them.

missing the front piece. Those look like the AT4 bars with drops. I always wanted a set of Scott AT4 bars when I rode in the 90's.
