My approach to rabies vaccine has changed over time.
- In 2007 prior to a ride across Russia, consulted with a travel clinic and in the end decided not to get the vaccine. During the trip, my cycling partner was bitten by a dog in Siberia. She had not had the vaccine but on return to the Netherlands she went through the shot sequence.
- Prior to a trip across Africa in 2013, decided to get a rabies vaccine, in part because of the Russian experience.
- Prior to a trip across the Americas in 2016, consulted with travel clinic again. While I perhaps still had some immunity from previous shots, I was also told it was not longer guidance to get the vaccine unless one was in a particular risk category such as a veterinarian going to work overseas.

No need to pay the insane American prices. Get vaccinated at your destination. For example in China you just walk into any hospital and get it on the spot for $3. You will need three shots so that's $9 total.

I know this is a resurrected thread, but it struck a chord with me. I was admonished a couple years ago to get my rabies vaccine by a good friend who is a doctor in Germany. I travel all over the world, often in some sketchy places, and come into contact with all sorts of stray dogs and cats. I really should get the vaccine at some point, but the pandemic put it on the back burner.

I have some personal experience with rabies, though not directly. My wife had to get the rabies shots when she was a child, after getting bit in Thailand where she grew up. She hates shots to this day.

Your question sparked my curiosity so I looked at some other posts. This update was about four and half months later - https://www.bikeforums.net/touring/3...d-my-tour.html
He was on bike forums for about three years after that until another slightly longer tour in 2010 and then one post in 2012.

Wow. Some old names there, like BigBlueToe and NoReg. I remember them.

Ha, good one, but let's hope that's not the case. 🤔😉

Who is that, in the MGM thingy? Whoever he is, he might really have rabies. 😲🙄
