Cheap Carbon Bike with 105

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I was really dismayed to hear they were closing. On the bright side, I picked up a Kestrel Talon X with 105 and direct mount brakes for $1200, which softened the blow. Never owned a carbon bike before, and after putting some miles on it, I don't want to ride anything else. I owned an aluminum Fuji a while back too. Didn't have any complaints. 👍

high quality steel or aluminum is gonna ride better than cheap carbon, a cheaper upgrade would be getting a good carbon fork and seatpost

I like my Trek Emonda ALR5. 105 groupset and within your price range.
The frame is as light or even lighter than many low/mid range carbon and it rides great.
The stock wheels are heavy but everything else is good.

I was going to mention the ALR5. The Spec Allez is in the same conversation.

Go to competitive cyclists website and check out the 1500 buck Ridley Fenix they'selling.

I ride the same frame, and there's nothing "cheap carbon" about it.

High quality steel (or maybe even HQ aluminium) will probably cost far more than cheap CF.

Thank you,

Giant. Best bang for the buck. Their ''entry level'' composite is known to be reliable, stiff and of very good quality.

For 1500$ you can get a Defy Adv. 1 or a TCR Adv. 1 (Mechanical Ultegra groupset on both).

And more importantly, be a lot safer... Some things aren't worth being cheap on if you do care about your safety. I'd def. go for high quality non-CF material instead.

Oh wait, are you saying cheap as ''not expensive'' or cheap as ''low quality''? lol
