Mine is still on 14.19b. Not sure why it isn’t getting the push. But, from the description of 14.20 it’d be step change in the build number and nothing more for me.

It looks like several versions (530) got an update too. Although it does look like there are a lot more fixes/changes to the 1040 than the 530. No biggee, just thankful Garmin is addressing the issues.

Notes say phased rollout so I assume it just has not made it to you yet.

Are you on beta firmware? Mine was on 12.16..

Garmin does a "phased rollout" which means instead of everybody getting the update all at once, 5% of customers get it the day it's released and it picks up speed as it trickles out.

Garmin is better at testing than they used to be, like 5 years ago, but now there are a ton more sensors, using BT too not just ANT+, and tons of different phones. There's more opportunity now for a software update to have a problem they didn't find in testing. Phased rollout is a safety mechanism, if they ship some terrible bug that bricks every Edge that tries to connect to a Stages gen 2, or whatever, they'll know quickly because people will scream and howl, and this way it's a smaller number of people affected.

You can usually skip the line by plugging your device into a computer with the USB cable and running Garmin Express.

Yes. I’ve been using the beta releases since my 1030. I’ve only had one “bad” experience with them. Typically, what I’ve noticed is that they are generally stable by the time they release firmware updates as beta. No exception with the 1040, so far. /fingerscrossed

Aware…I typically get the push the morning of the rollout announcements. Habitually when I get the notification of software, I try to look up the “updates,” and I frequently see nothing till later that day. I’m not special, just lucky I guess. Oh well, like I said, the 14.19b seems to have everything that 14.20 does, so when I get it, I get it.

They actually deployed this in the 14.0xb build about a month ago. My suspicion is that they removed it from the initial public releases due to a software issue they couldn’t resolve prior to device release in June and continued to test the feature in the background in house. Once they got it functional they deployed it into the beta stream back in early August. It works fine…but honestly, I personally prefer controlling music/podcasts with my phone or AirPods.

I use the bone conducting OpenRun Pro headphones and it's cumbersome to FF or RW from them so this is a very welcomed addition for me. So much easier to control music now right on the Garmin...

Worked out grrrrrrrrreat on my ride earlier today!
