Utah Hwy 12 by bike, slowly?
Is it practical to take several days to do this route, with dispersed camping, stopping to hike whenever we want, etc? Hubby n me are not as fit to ride distance and elevation as we used to be, and i would like to really relax this time instead of pushing myself/scaring him. I suppose water would be the limiter? Can anyone advise? Thank you in advance. Louise in California.

I've only toured on the western part of Hwy 12, but have driven a car on more of it. It's certainly doable between Panguitch and Boulder. There are services and water available periodically. I don't know the stretch from Boulder north to a turnoff to a dirt road to get into Capitol Reef Nat. Park. From that turnoff up to Torrey seemed more remote to me than the stretch from Panguitch to Boulder, and I suspect it's similar between Boulder and the turnoff. But, it's not nearly as dry and as much of a desert as Utah east of Capitol Reef. It's 36 miles between Boulder & Torrey.
A lot of hikes are not that close to Hwy 12 and involve dirt roads to get to trailheads.

We rode this a couple of years ago. It was a memorable and worthwhile trip. It is a challenging route with significant climbing. See the specific days for my commentary.
