What have I started? Schwinn Prologue

Many years ago I had lost one of my favorite bikes to some bad times. When I was in High School, I had bought a Schwinn Prologue frame. This was my dream bike at the time and I had so many big plans with it. A year later I was over seas in the US Army and the bike build was never completed. When I returned back to the states and after my enlistment, I went through some rough times. Some of that time, I was homeless and lost what few possessions I had. I always thought I would get another one later. Well, later came and went and I never got another one.
Fast forward to today. Those rough times are long ago in the past and I had bounced back very well. Every few years, I start on another Prologue hunt and every hunt ends in disappointment. I have seen several in the past but they have always been the wrong size and a few was in horrible shape. I know it was not a common bike and I never have seen one in my size. My size is 54 frame, if I remember correctly that would be a 16" frame.
It was in another unrelated post in a different sub group that I saw a mention of a Prologue. Which started that hunt over again. Even after I decided that maybe its time to give up the search.

By chance, does anyone know where I can get my hands on a Schwinn Prologue size 54? Any year would do but the ideal year would be 1987

Thank you
Tom

One listed as 54cm in SoCal as well, but doesn't give a price - which may mean the ask will be steep and/or unreasonable. But you never know...

The ad is a little superfluous.
Really nice frames, though.

Just for a little extra motivation, here is mine that I built with Dura Ace 7700 9 speed and Mavic Open Pro rims.
I think it's 53 cm.
As you can see from the riser stem, even at only 5' 6" it's a little small for me, but it's the only frameset I could find after looking for a long time.

You should post your desires on the C & V sales page. Mostly the same audience, but you might get lucky.

Good luck on your search. I've seen enough of these models that I think if if you keep looking for a few months one should turn up.

I've had a couple of them, nice riding bikes. A 23" built up with Dura Ace 9 speed, the other a 22" with Shimano 105 7 speed and a set of wheels with red rims.
Paint's a little fragile and they tend to acquire surface rust around the seat post lug and bottom bracket, but the paint is easy to match.

Original owner. 1987 model bought new in 1990 (apparently unloved for 3 years as people became enthralled with aluminum). The original components were Suntour Sprint 9000. Recently upgraded some parts to: Dura Ace hubs, Ultegra rear derailleur and cassette, compact crank, and 10 speed Dura Ace shifters.

Like rccardr, I also have very, very light "surface rust around the seat post lug and bottom bracket". I didn't know that was common with Prologues. Other than that, the paint on mine is still perfect.

No, I have normal length arms, but being near 70 years old with arthritis in my back affects my riding position somewhat.

What do you use for touch up paint?

Last I knew (almost 3 years ago), there was one on offer at Velocity Bike and Bean in Florence, KY. If it wasn't 54cm, it was close. The concern that prevented me from getting it was the top tube. It looked like it had been used on a trainer for years and there were signs of corrosion limited to about 3 inches of the front end of the tube. To my knowledge, it had not been closely inspected, so I can't say one way or another whether it is compromised. The fellow who co-owns the place and is the chief mechanic and bike czar is a super-nice guy. If you'd like me to check to see if he still has it, and to verify size, let me know in PM.

Testor’s Red and Testor’s White. May have done a little mixing with Testor’s Red Metallic to get the right look, been a while.
