Got a ride in this morning to beat the heat.

BillMc, sorry, I saw your question about Strava stats earlier this month, but didn't reply. I'm afraid I don't use Strava. I track my rides with a Fitbit app and a Bryton GPS. The Fitbit is a pain, it often loses connection with my phone, so the mileage is off. I just use it for heart rate.

Anyone interested in posting strata stats?

I use a bike computer to log my miles, it seems much more accurate than GPS tracking. I do use MapMyRide sometimes, just as a backup and as a crosscheck for accuracy.

I had this problem when I first started commuting years ago. I am on my phone right now, but we need to talk. You don't have to live like that.

I appreciate your offer, but I can deal with this myself. Yes, I've had two flats in a week (it was actually last Tuesday, not Monday), but I've also ridden that same route for a year on the same tires and not had any issues. So it was just bad luck. I could put, and have considered putting, Rhinodillo liners inside between the tire casing and the tube, and honestly, I thought that's what I'd been riding on with this bike, but when I pulled the tube out last week, I realized I did install Rhinodillos, but not in this bike, and the one I did put them in has found a new home. So yes, I could do that, and I haven't totally ruled it out, but I'm only going to be commuting to work for a few more weeks, and then I'm going to be spending more time on my other bike(s) and less on this one, so I'm reluctant to spend the money. I've also got a new set of Gatorskin Hardshell tires I could put on this bike, but again, for just a few more weeks, it seems a tad excessive. The regular Gatorskins can probably last that long, they're far from worn out. And tubeless? Yes, another fine idea, but buying a new wheelset, tires, sealant, valve stems, rim strips, and all the other fun stuff that goes along with going tubeless would cost much more than this bike is worth. I don't mean to sound ungrateful, I do appreciate your generosity with your time. And if you have suggestions that don't fall into the solutions listed above, I'll be happy to hear them. Thanks.

You sound good, just wanted to make sure you were not going through what I did when I first started commuting. I literally had dozens of f**** a month. On the up side I could change a f*** in just a few minutes. I still have a hard time saying the f word.

Being from Kansas City most of my rides are right around ~1000 elevation from sea level, escaped the crazy 100+ and 80% Humidity for a couple of weeks by going to Colorado and did fairly well with the altitude!

Also started the month at 215.5 lbs (down from ~238 since I started back cycling in mid March) and weighed in this morning at 206.5!

Thanks for your thoughtful comments.

I had a great day! For the first time in over a month, I rode today. Only four miles, but I had little pain during the ride, and no pain after it!

So I have 4.1 miles for the month of July. I'm hoping to get back to the 100+ mark in August.

To anyone who is struggling or sidelined - don't give up!

That’s excellent! Hopefully you’ll feel a little stronger with each ride.

I’ll be in Breckenridge next week to ride dirt bikes. Also taking a bicycle and I’m thinking about riding the Vail pass and back if I can sneak off. That’s about 5x the elevation of my typical ride around here. I’m a little concerned about how I’ll handle the altitude on the bicycle. We’ll see.

I did a little off roading with my Jeep out there, it's a great area. I did about half of Vail Pass, it was a fun ride - the part I did went from around 9000 feet elevation to over 10,000 feet elevation in about a 10 mile distance! The ride around Dillon Reservoir is also awesome but going up Swan Mountain was a bit of a struggle for me, you gain over 500 feet elevation in less than 2 miles so it was a bit tougher climb than Vail Pass. Here are 2 of my rides:

Also my 2nd to last day there I rode from Frisco to Breckenridge and back and saw a big ass moose!

I’ll check our your Strava links. I’ve been looking for some and couldn’t find any. Very helpful, thanks!
