MTB Shocks

Hey as bigger riders, how does everyone else do with sag? My pump goes to 150psi and even at that I'm past the 20% sag on the rear shock.

If I keep going past what the pump reads, will I hurt the seals in the shock?

I have been commuting on the MTB because I have trails on the way, also want to do a cross tri. I bottom out without doing any big jumps. I have some rollers I preload and that's it.

check you shock manual for setting so you burst the seals.

this one goes to 300psi, Shock pumps are diff than floor pumps for tires.

Thank you, I will have to get that pump or one that goes up higher. Manual says no more than 300 psi for the shock.

Are you riding a Salsa Horsethief? If so, that bike starts with a high leverage ratio (3:1) and goes to 2.6:1. As a bigger guy, that might be hard to get a the sag to a point that is acceptable and still get full travel.

What shock are you using? Some of Fox shocks are not suitable for heavier riders.

Also, almost all shock pumps go to 200 psi and many to 300 or higher. You might want to get another pump. Also, these pumps are all over place in terms of accuracy, so don't go by absolute numbers but rather by sag. There are other ways to set up a rear shock besides sag but that takes some more experience.

Yes, I am riding the Salsa Horsethief. The fork is a fox float series, and the rear is a fox float rp2.
