Brea canyon road re-pave
Rode it yesterday morning. Sign at the south end at Canyon Ctry Rd side street announcing 7pm-5am 8/22-9/30 work for re-pave. North sign was a few hundred yards north of the 57 Southbound onramp. Looks like the worst section will be new. Might be wise to avoid until it's completed. Wish they'd go up further towards the 57 underpass but it's better than nothing.

The only time I was hit. actually side swiped, was on Brea Canyon Rd on the no shoulder portion near the creek.
Stayed upright and only had a bruise on my hip.
I will only ride it early on Sundays now.
There are safer routes to access Carbon Canyon Rd and still make a loop out of it from the Rowland Heights side.
Here is my workaround to avoid Brea Canyon Rd. It adds 8 miles but you are in bike lanes most of the way or enjoying the quieter roads of La Habra Heights.

I woudn't ride it on weekdays due to commuter traffic only early weekends for me also.
CAT7 thanks for posting that route I often go up it, SAG at Heritage Park then take Pathfinder to Fullerton, East/West etc. or loop south to Carbon Cyn Road.
Fortunately never had a close call on the lower narrow part.
