Addiction 2022.3

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

While I haven’t been there in some time, I really like Alyan’s. The ex and I often went there before films at the Ritz. Good food and good prices.

Rode my best time trial in a long time and it didn't record for some reason. Sad! I still returned home smiling.

Watching the Tour de Femmes and some of the bikes have rim brakes. Didn't notice if any of the men had 'em.

New kit day

Gore C5 jersey and bibs in orbit blue, black C3 bib, green daily jersey.

I think this makes 4 sets of bibs+jerseys now, more than I’ve ever had before.

went for a hike yesterday. Nice easy loop up a small hill. The wind at the top was rather cold and lazy. Still a good day out.

After those 3 disappointing rides this week where my HR and RPE seemed to be way too high for the speed I was going, today I decided to go gentle. I aimed for mostly HR Z1/Z2, and didn't mark and chase down any other riders. Overall fairly slow, but nice and relaxing. I took the Litespeed, which I've managed to make into my most comfortable bike, and now with the R8000 group it really has the most seamless performance of any of my bikes. It's eerily quiet, like the only sound is the tires rolling over the tarmac, and when shifting the loudest sound is the soft *clik* of the STI lever.

#2 FTW

Yesterday, our dog started to run out the back door to bark at something. Then she stopped and looked quizzically at something on the fence as if she didn’t know what to do. There was a road runner walking across the top of the fence. First time seeing one around here.

The most striking difference between the east and west coasts is that in the western states there are at least 14 different species of hummingbirds, while in the east there is only a single (1) species.

Back in 2000 I was car camping outside of Telluride with the GF after finishing a tour to Cortez, CO. Bikes on the roof rack. GF’s Bianchi had a segment of yellow on the seat tube. Attracted a good number of hummingbirds.
