Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Wx underground still says no rain til 1 pm. SMH.

Phooey. I imagine they are proprietary so you can't switch out for another set?

Hoping to be able to do that and put in back in the build queue.

But can you receive a new bike that's incomplete?
On a similar thread, I ordered that $200 hand plane under the assumption that one of our visitors would check a bag. None did. My wife was going to go north in Oct., but now that's pushed back to Thanksgiving. I'm arranging shipping for it.

Ask them to put SL bar and stem on, and switch it out later.

That would be far too easy. They don't really want to sell a bike as much as they want to sell the promises of a bike.

Anyone ever buy I bonds?? Apparently they give a ridiculously high 9.6% APR, but you have to sign up and buy them online. I am wondering how much of a nuisance it is to go through that.

I seem to recall Velo Vol mentioned this awhile ago, but he is on hiatus.

I bought the max earlier this year.

It's a bit of a hassle to get the account opened, but the return is there if you have the cash laying around. You can buy up to $10,000 per person per year, and you can buy $10,000 through an entity (LLC, corp, trust, etc.) per year.

There is a one year holding period, and after that if you cash in before maturity you forfeit 3 months' interest. Since the interest rate is tied to inflation, my theory is that if the rate drops to money market rates or below, you ride it out for 3 months and then you cash out. If you cash out after the interest rate falls to 1%, for example, you would lose $25 in interest that would be forfeited.

Most everyone I know with cash has jumped on it. Even my financial planner thinks it's a good play.

They are not proprietary, I don't believe. My understanding is that Trek uses standard size stems. The SLR bar/stem piece bolts on like any other stem.

Still have a little more work to do up front. I don't like how the shop routed the hoses, so I'm going to reroute and shorten the hoses to tidy up the mess at the stem.

I still have to put the chain on and program the entire thing.

Unfortunately, I'm probably about 3 weeks away from riding it as we will be traveling and have other commitments for the next two weeks.

You should trust them. Go on and ride. The rain isn't real.

Saw my dentist this week. He doesn't take my insurance since I retired but I haven't needed anything major until now. Now I need to find an oral surgeon for an extraction and an endontist for a root canal and I need a crown and 2 more fillings. Frack.

Having just had a root canal and crown, I feel for you and your pocketbook.

I actually just got back from the dentist, a few minutes ago, for a cleaning, too. I've been to the dentist more this year than in the previous 15 or so combined.

I'm wondering how much my insurance will cover for the oral surgeon. In 1996 or 7 I had a similar tooth done by an oral surgeon and they put me under general anesthesia.
My dentist doesn't do root canals anymore, he's done several for me in years past. I think the root plus crown is like $1500?

Anyway I'm having lots of anxiety over the whole thing.

Got it. Thanks. I am aware of the max and the holding period/forfeit issues, just wondering how much of a PITA the online account process is. Sounds tolerable so I will try to do this for myself and mrs datlas.
