Maillard Freewheels, indexing or not?
Hi folks,
I was given a pair of Maillard freewheels. A 12-28 7 speed marked FY91 & a 13-26 8 speed marked FY92. The teeth look like they could be indexing compatible & they use the standard Shimano removal tool. I assume that the FY markings are date codes. Does anyone know if these will actually work with Shimano indexing components? Currently, I don’t have wheels or a bike to test them on.
Any feedback will be appreciated.
Cheers,
Van

I’ve been running a 7 speed 90’s Sachs Aris freewheel with Shimano index shifters and RD. It works great.
The tooth profile looks the same.

Mount the freewheel. Test the indexing. If it doesn't work, mount either a Shimano or new chromed Sunrace.

They work!
Hi folks,
This week’s refurb assignment from the local bike co-op was a Motobecane Mirage Sport. It was to be converted a city bike with riser bars & index shifting. The upgrade parts included; new tires, an Altus RD, new Sunrace chain, a Shimano indexing FW & a set of Grip Shifters. After completing the basic service & truing the wheels, I put it back together with the new parts & the Sachs-Maillard FW. After a few minor adjustments, it worked as designed.
Cheers,
Van
