Just got back from my 3 day mini tour on the Miyata and it held up lol.

I have several nice bikes but if I had to pick a favorite - it'd be my Miyata. I believe she is a 1991 frame, carbon wrapped aluminum with aluminum lugs. The model is something like "3000". I've updated her with Dura Ace 9 speed group, all carbon fork, and carbon cockpit. The saddle has since been replaced with a black Brooks B17N.

I think part of the whole Miyata "thing" is that they are not only good looking bikes; but carry a consistent, brilliant quality, and excellent finishing to them.
I have never heard anyone say something bad about Miyata's quality. The frames are strong, responsive, and just, simply work.

My "twins":


1985 Miyata 310, I believe to be all original, and in excellent condition.


1985 Miyata 912, Modified, but the paint is in great condition.

I have to say Miyatas make some of the best looking and well made bikes ever. I have a great time riding my 1991 Triple Cross and 1986 710. Both are well made and as of yet I have not had any problems with them...which is a by-product of quality.

Flickr has a small Miyata group (36 members) with pics of their various bikes...you might take a look when you get time. Anyone can join!

I'm not dissing my former Miyata 210. It was nicely made, nicely finished, and was very stable. It was a bit heavier than what I prefer riding, and consequently a bit slow to accelerate, and not quite a nimble as I prefer. It was probably more a case of the bike being designed for a different use than what I wanted to use it for. It does now have a fine home, and is better appreciated. All this said, I'm at least as fond of my Fuji, a couple of my Raleighs, and one or two other bicycles.

Miyatas are second only to Raleighs in my stable as to quanity. I still have the 710 I got new in 1983. Then there is the 1991 600GT I bought as a frameset and built up as my PBP bike. And, lastly, the only one I have a pic of is a 91 CarbonTech 3000 I got a few couple years ago as a damaged NOS frame(one of the shifter mounts got pushed into the down tube in shipping). I made that into a fixed gear.

I've also had Country Runner and an Elevation 1500.
My youngest had a 110 with 24" wheels when she was in grade school and kept up with the rest of us 'old folks' on club rides back in the early ninties. There was a bidding war on the 110 when the kid outgrew it and I offered up for sale at the club. Got a bit more than I paid for it and didn't feel the least bit guilty, either.

I'm a big Miyata fan and have been lucky with my finds. My wife's first vintage bike was a 110. Even though it was a lower end Miyata it was still a quality bike. I still have a 1000 and I really don't think I need to say anything other then what everyone says about that bike is true. My other Miyata is my commuter a TripleCross. Man what a surprize that bike was. I bought it as a flipper but after I rode it, it stayed, lol. I like to call the TripleCross my SUV. It does anything and everything that I need it to. Miyata cult? Count me in.

It made it to NC and back to PA pretty quickly, too. Dan worked a nice twist on that thing.

I picked up a 710 frame yesterday for 50 bones - going to build it up with all the Cyclone I have sitting around. Then today - up pops a '84 1000 in very good shape for a very reasonable price on CL. Weird-o-rama. It was in the air.

I like Miyatas too. I like knowing they were a real bike maker, not just a US importer's name. I know they made the Japanese Univegas, which I like equally well.

To be fair, I like all Japanese-made lines of bikes from the late 70's and early 80's.

My first Miyata was a Univega. I also have a Quickcross, with roadbars, my son has a 1400, which is one nice lively frame, much better than the 914 I had. Sold my tig welded MTB, to heavy. Miyata QC is first class!

Just more proof the cult is alive and well...

I am back for another season of cycling and looks like this post got rekindled with out me
It's been a long cold winter and a very early spring and have been getting my baby ready to ride.
She got new pedals this year although I still have the originals.

No, its not mine!! It was posted on one of the Florida CL cities

I passed on a 1988 912 frameset this weekend for $40. It was 2 sizes to big and too cheap....I didnt get a good vibe from the seller.

Well, you guys are now responsible for the fact that my bank account may not stretch to the end of this month. Also, for dragging me further into the clutches of this cult!

Reading this thread today reminded me that I was looking for a 1000. I love my 210, but it's a bit tattered, and everyone knows, the 1000 is the thing to have!

Quick browse of CL, nothing, try some of the others,... Miyata...20"? too small...hang on, that looks a bit tall for 20... Got details and apointment on that, whats this other one? naw... but wait, does that logo say titanium?!!!

So now have a 1000, Which Fits Me! and a team Titanium, Which.............................................. almost fits me.

The 1000, is going to be my main bike, after some TLC, well used, but not overly abused.

The Team titanium, not sure what to do with that, just couldn't turn down the deal... anyone want a TT in about 56cm?

So, like I said, it's all your fault.
