Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

You should have found some tailgaters who would give you free beer and let you join your party lol

I got several good riding friends from Lincoln BTW

What is funny...I've lived near a trailhead that hookups up to the Homestead Trail for years, and never ridden it. Didn't bring the nutrition for a long ride all the way to Cortland or Beatrice and back to Lincoln though. Lots of officially posted hiking/biking singletrack hookups off of it to check out later....but otherwise 0.0% all the way and hypnotically straight.

on unpaved rail trails I discovered the same things. now I always bring 2 water bottles & a sandwich for the halfway turnaround. last weekend also had some dried fruit. a very straight trail is a bit of a mental challenge. more of a focus on performance, you think? fast gravel is fun, but after two hours, I'm good. if the terrain changes & is a little challenging then it keeps my interest longer but of course the speed goes down. longest I've been away from my car was 4 hours. seemed OK in the fall but not sure 2 bottles would be enough for that long in the summer

Last summer I did 90 miles of hot up and down national forest road between 6500 and 9000 ft elev. Went through 3- 26oz bottles plus 2 liters in the camelback. But I'm slow and was out there all day.

I've done imperial centuries on the roadie at about 6 hours without busting balls. This August I'm booked for Gravel Worlds (150mi of non-pavement, but with nutrition stops etc.)....so I have some training to do, although I'm still probably going to get knackered .

Tour de Nebraska this summer allegedly has a gravel-route planned for all 5 days for the first time this year, each day being between 40-80mi I'd guess.

We have a few great gravel trails around here. My LBS guy told me that riding them was super bad for the bike since the dust clogs up everything. I figured I would just clean the bike after every ride. The dude seemed very anti-rail trail.

Hose it & wipe it down down when done. Apply lube. Extra 10 minutes per ride out in the garage.

What's the BFD?

Commuted in with panniers today, got off early, and decided to take a detour on the way home...

Local city park called Pioneer's Park. Not sure why the columns are there, TBH.

https://goo.gl/maps/yumiVBmeZQR2

Has about 8-10 miles of fairly technical hilly paved and gravel bike trails running through it, a couple lakes, some camp grounds, lots of geese, an outdoor bandshell I sometimes work at, a nature center, some buffalo.... Also depending on the time of year cyclocross racing, and junior and high-school cross country races/training.

Lots of rather technical riding...best done either at dawn or during the work day with any kind of speed...as if it is nice out, people tend to be everywhere.

LOL. Not quite.

Columns | Public Art Lincoln

Apparently during the demo of the old US Treasury building, some rich yuppie here (friend of William Jennings Bryan) bought the columns and donated them to the city. POTUS Lincoln spoke at that Treasury building while it still stood, during the Civil War to union troops.

I think it's great that the guy bought the columns just to donate. Whomever did that is awesome.

The columns laying down are cool. Kids can climb on them, etc.
