Running an *******s license plate is the best offense/defense there is. They may not all be seen to run, but the ones that are certainly go into a database. There is really nothing more unsettling than seeing the cyclist you harassed doing figure-8's on his bike in front of your house the next morning.

I didn’t get a wave back this morning, and gained 5 watts instantly.

I am sure there are important regional differences, related in part to the number of cyclists on the roads. Up here, at last, things have gotten increasingly mellow, particularly since the pandemic has seemingly doubled that number.
If you want to discuss a longer timespan, I remember constant harassment in the 1970s.

No data, relying on memory, which is problematic, but while there may have been some uptick in cycling on the MUPs and designated cycling routes here, it sure doesn't feel like there's much more cycling out on the real roads than there was a decade ago.

My serious cycling goes back to 2005.

Went for a short ride on the CX bike. It was a mix of road, grass, wood chips, and gravel. I pumped the tires up to 60 which was probably ok for the road but possibly too high for the grass and trails. I was on a local park gravel trail when a walker pointed to a “No Bicycles” sign. I put my tail between my legs and left. Sigh.

Wow. We had some nice weather today, if a bit windy, so I got out for a good, long-ish ride. For the first time since it was made opt-in, I checked my FlyBys.
Now I know what Velo Vol feels like - three. THREE FlyBys in 80 miles. I guess they done kilt that feature.
