Yikes. 37 mph avg. over the last 1000m?!?!? That's what I can sprint on a good day. I can't imagine sustaining that for 10 seconds, much less 60. Insane.

If that kid can climb they're in Big Trouble in those Grand Tours. And if he can't he'll crush them in the TTs and Spring Classics. Looking forward to a new Phinney on the Podium. How great is that going to be?

It truly incredible that he was able to average 37mph on a velodrome, but averaging 37mph out on the road would be the most spectacular thing that any human has ever done. There's a reason why pretty much all cycling speed records are done indoors.

I really don't understand how Phinney is being talked up as a future GT contender. The kid is HUGE. I mean, never say never, he really is a phenom, but the conventional wisdom would be to see him as a future giant for classics, TTs and/or sprints. Honestly, an American who is able to clean up at the big spring classics, especially P-R and Flanders or MSR would be every bit as much of a revelation as another American tour winner.
