Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I had to abandon my ride a few miles in tonight because of a general level of cluelessness and micromanagement at the top level that had me so pissed I wasn’t enjoying it. Never in my life have I felt so awful about working for someone. I’ve looked for opportunities to grow, but never just gave up and and wanted to quit with nothing lined up. Super frustrating and exhausting.

It’ll take me 6-9 months to find something comparable, which makes it even worse.

Sorry to read this. I've felt similar things. Work stress sucks, especially when you feel trapped and hopeless.

No, but I’d like to. Tough to explain that away when trying to get an executive position.

Yeah, it's never problematic when a group of people feels so entitled in their (real or perceived) privilege over others that they posture with demonstrations of their magnanimous nature. These same people never, ever rescind their freely given good graces when they're driving to the ****** job that they hate or when they're late getting Johnny to soccer practice. Nope, never.

Today I had a weedeating through poison ivy activity. Wearing shorts.

I estimate my itch reaction odds at:

40% none to little itching
50% a modest level of itching
10% lots of itching

Poison ivy is a sensitizer - if you've been exposed to it with little/no reaction previously, there's a good chance that your body will mount a bigger response the next time around. I've unwittingly walked through the stuff in sandals and came away unscathed, but I'm not about to test it out again.

Had a nice ride today. We didn't do a lot of climbing because some of today's riders are doing a big climb tomorrow. I was invited but declined. Don't want to tail a bunch of climbers on a Wednesday, I do that on Saturdays. This is part of tomorrow's route.

The drivers waving you through are not the ones to be concerned about. It's the ones who don't think you should be on the road at all (or the distracted ones).

Above odds based on plenty of poison ivy exposures. 10% allowance for the unexpected is pretty generous, actually.

Somewhat embarrassingly I think the MTB I'm riding tomorrow may be close to if not under the weight of my main road bike.

And it's squishy on both ends.
