Bahh, two hours of advertising versus one hour of racing.

Watched Paris-Roubaix this evening of Versus.

While I did not do a precise measurement it certainly felt like
advertising time was at least twice the race time.

I guess I will have to restrain my self and watch a recording later in the evening
from now on....

At the risk of sounding like I'm geezing, I will take tonight's coverage over the hour-long broadcasts (including the commercials) with John Tesch soundtracks that we had in the 80's. My TV's schedule had 2 hours of coverage listed, and Versus delivered 3 hours instead. Bike racing is still a cult sport in the US. I'll take it.

Now get off my lawn, you lil' whippersnapper!

If you are going to record anything on VS make sure to record the next hour of shows. They seem to always run over the allotted time.

I use a Tivo, I start watching the race when the show is 1/3 of the way through the broadcast, by the time I catch up with the live show (having skipped the commercials) the race is at or near the end. I figure I'm already paying for TV when I pay my cable bill, why sit through commercials too.

AND we were HAPPY to get THAT! Before CBS and John Tesh and Pierre Salinger we got squat... had to make due with magazine reports that were three or four months ex post facto.

I edited the commercials out of VS coverage down to 2h10m of programming (not all racing... some was interviews, etc)
72% show, 28% ads.

I watched it live on cycling.tv
Then I recorded the versus coverage to watch later. I just like Phil Ligget & Paul Sherwin... what can I say. For me, they are the voices of cycling for the US.

Well if you watch any major sport its going to be like this. Generally more exposure to the sponsors between commentating on the event. I LOVE Phil and Paul!
"Once again, they've stretched the elastic!" 30 seconds later "The elastic has snapped!"

I'll take Versus any day over 5 minutes of BBC radio recap on the TdF like we had to put up with in the 1970's. Want cheese and crackers with that whine?

They have been doing this crap for years. Loaded with advertising, just when you're getting into things, the music kicks in again...
