Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

A catastrophic, high deductible, plan for my family now costs almost $3,000 per month. Hardly affordable.

As for malpractice suits, Texas (and most states that I know of) has always had a requirement that before a suit could be brought against a doctor or hospital, the plaintiff had to obtain and file a certificate signed by a doctor in the same area of practice that stated that the treating providers against whom the suit was brought did not follow the "standard of care" in providing the care that led to the injury.
In GA a similar group plan is about $1,500/month. In Illinois an individual plan is similar to what you pay. Might be a group vs individual plan thing.

Also, don't forget those greedy nurses. SMH

The price I mentioned is a group rate through my firm.

The rates through our school district are not much less even though it is a much larger group.

Even if I did release a beautiful plan, good luck getting it (or anything) through the political process. Today's world is one in which tens of millions of people can be hoodwinked into believing that even a vaccine is bad. Get enough key people on your side, and you can demonize anything.

The latest thing is for antivaxxers to say the best vaccine is to catch the disease. They've completely lost the thread.

Fat trash panda. He hung around for a good 10 minutes. Saw a live possum yesterday in addition to the carcass earlier in the week.

Golly, you mean that people who push for "tort reform" as a way of reducing heathcare costs might not be acting in good faith?

Anna Karenina in the bank. Whew! Tough read at the end. I'm gonna give Tolstoy a wide berth henceforth. Moving on to 'Aurobiography of a Yogi' since it's already downloaded. I read it as a ute. Now as an old man. Perhaps a light will flicker.

Since I did a Zwift race on Friday and the C&V ride yesterday, I decided today would be shorter than my usual Sunday rides. It was chilly and foggy when I started (Bay Area standards), so I wore a jacket, since yesterday I found the vest wholly inadequate at times. But then it cleared up, so I ended up with my jersey underneath the jacket thoroughly sodden. I decided to take a few detours, ride a couple roads I either don't ride, or always ride in the other direction. One of these I had long ago decided not to ride in one direction because it was such a slog. Lighter, fitter me found it no bother at all, so it's back on the list of rideables. One road I'd never been on, so I thought I'd try it. I came up to a precipitous drop off, which went I know now where, so I turned around and figured I'd preview it on Strava before trying it IRL. On a flat map, the road looks pretty straight, and of course the elevation doesn't show.

Anyway, here's a pic of a vista so nice I had to stop and take a pic, which I rarely do. Caught the fog burning off over Crystal Springs Lake...

putting Gators on the bontrager rims was almost like torture.

Looks like i’m going to New York tomorrow. Got assigned my first trip. My first overnight is Richmond, Va. Would be fantastic if it was a long overnight, but as of now it’s scheduled to be a short one.
