How to date a Galmozzi frame
Hello,
Can anyone please tell me how to date when a Galmozzi frame was built please ?
I have a frame with Galmozzi Super Competizione engraved on the head tube.
On the underside of the bottom bracket shell there are four "dots" in a line, probably made with a steel punch. Depending on whether you look from the rear of the frame, or from the front to the rear, there is an engraved 9 or 6 respectively, either above the line of "dots" or below thm
I am presuming that 9 would be the correct answer - but what do they all mean ?
The frame has the usually stated 2.75 mm ventilation holes towards the top of each seat stay and a 27 mm seat tube. It has been suggested that Galmozzi removed mudguard eyes from his frames from the late 1950's but this doesn't seem to be the case with the many 1960's frames advertised / illustrated on the Internet. My frame has mudguard eyes.
Any explanation would be most gratefully received, as I can then decide which Campagnolo components to use.

I have just read that the number and the "dots" engraved on the underside of the bottom bracket shell in some way refers to a racing team. Whether this is plausible, I just don't know - I'd guess that it refers to a date code.

I now believe after looking at several photographs of the underside of Galmozzi bottom bracket shells, that the embossed number refers to the year of a 1950's frame's manufacture and the number of dots must then refer to the "quarter" of that year.
On another matter, I have seen a seat tube small decal stating F. Galmozzi as the builder. Strangely, this decal doesn't appear on any sets of Galmozzi decals that I have seen advertised for sale. Any ideas please ?

You date a Galmozzi by turning up in spiffiest riding gear, with a fresh tube of Campagnolo grease in one hand and some new rolls of Cinelli cork tape in the other.
