Anyone Pair a PowerTap G3 Hub With Garmin Edge 1030?
Garmin is discounting the 1030 right now, but I want to be sure I can pair a PowerTap G3 hub with it before trying to fix what isn’t broke (my current setup— Edge 510, G3 Hub— is working fine). Can anyone confirm if this is possible?

The PT uses ANT+ right?
I think the 1030 can use BT also, many newer Garmins can.

The one I have is ANT+ only, I am pretty certain. They have later versions which are both ANT+ and Bluetooth, but if I want that I’d need to upgrade the cap, $150 at Wheelbuiilder.

I searched for Powertap on wheelbuilder.com and didn't find anything about a replacement cap. Of course, they went through and redesigned the site so old people can't read it. It's impressively bad

Head units aren't programmed for specific power meters, there's a power data profile that PMs implement and head units read. So you should have no problem. (But I have a different PM and a different Garmin, so I can't say much from personal experience.)

I still haven't paired mine, but there are very few ant+ issues with Garmin. Wahoo has problems with one version of SRM power meter because of some differences in clock frequency. I see no similar messages in the wattage google groups, which is where you would find out about such things if they were a problem

All Garmins work with ANT+, you don't need BT also.

If you're going to buy it, get it from a place with a good return policy.

Wise advice.
Regarding Wheelbuilder, great people. I met the owner when I went up there, really seems like a stand-up guy.

Horrible to resurrect a dead thread, I know. But I upgraded to a Garmin Edge 830 and it works great with my G3 hub.
