Is this an Over Kill locking method?
First time commuting to new job in midtown. alot of shady characters around. I don't want my saddle stolen, so until i get a used crappy saddle i'm doing this.

Seems reasonable too me. In NYC, too much is never enough, if you don't mind carrying the weight of the locks.

Run a loop of chain through you saddle and frame and eletrical tape it taut. It will save you a lot of time, instead of trying to lock up like that each time.

I hope you're not locking to that sign post for more than a few minutes. You don't want to come back after an hour or two to find a post with no sign and no bike.

I would try to lift that big loop in the chain over the post.
I assume there is a small no parking sign at the top.

the post is like 10' tall. how would you do that without a ladder? by this time next week i'll install a beater seat, and change the handlebars to cheap road bars and install a front brake with road levers.

your set up looks ok to me, but you might want to mini-u the front end to a thick pole/meter. Yoshi ain't crazy, I have seen the bike tossed over the green pole.

if you dont want to carry the locks, just leave them locked to the thing you use every day.
and who here has ever first hand had their bike stolen from the post lifting method, or seen it happen?

Sure, I think you mean Yoshi, but the theft I was telling about happened after lunch in the smack of dowtown houston in front of a high dollar bank tower. People are even less likely to jack with someone jacking something in NYC imo

I have had it happen to friends, and don't count on NYC'ers to stop someone from stealing your bike.
