Air pollution in Races

On a slow, steep climb the other day, I counted 14 motorcycles and 2 cars leading the main group. I wonder what the air quality is like for the riders, with no wind to clear the air.

Normally the cars follow and don't lead so I don't know what was going on when you saw this. Obviously there is a motorcycle or two filming ahead. As regards the cars it's my understanding that the official cars (Skoda) are mostly hybrids and the red race car occasionally 'pure electric'. Also you shouldn't assume there's no wind.

Electric support vehicles should be required by big races like the TDF.
