That's Mark (gugie), Dave (davester), and Alex from L to R. Not shown is the gorgeous frame Mark made for Alex. I had the pleasure of riding out from Berkeley for the first ~20 miles, before bidding farewell. Morning rain forecast led to a late route change for day 1. We started out along the bay trail with nice views of SF by the Marina and later from the Richmond Bridge. There were only a few scattered showers on my ride, mostly on the way back.
Hoping you guys have good luck with the weather/road conditions, and safe travels! Looking forward to following along and possibly doing another round of harbor duty at the end of the tour.
A couple of shots as I headed back on the Richmond Bridge looking south to SF and north toward the TdMIL route (and maybe a pot of gold).

I noted that with interest. In particular, I was surprised that one of those two is the Fearless Event Leader's, as he's often suggested I need to add a fendered bike to the stable for wet-weather fun and games

This has been my year for flats on the mountain bike. I don't know about the rest of you, but I am done with Racelite brand innertubes. I just replaced both with Slimes, and so far, so good. To be fair, I also replaced the rear rim strip, which was not completely covering a couple of the spoke holes, but after getting two flats on the rim-facing surface of a tube, I have to believe that was the cause. Never an issue with other brands of tubes.

A Few Pictures from day 2
From one of the steep sections before we stopped for lunch. Thor looking happy that he chose his mountain bike, Mark (Gugie) and Andy (BoltBreaker) delivering papers on a the steep pitch, followed by Dave (Davester) enjoying the rain.
After this section we stopped for lunch then Joseph (The local Harbor Pilot) and I turned off a climbed a brutal hill on our way back to Santa Rosa.

So TdMIL 2021 is in the books! As typically occurs, there was some luck, as well as listening to the Marines unofficial slogan - Improvise, Adapt, and Overcome as the answer to my personal slogan of What Could Possibly Go Wrong?
Well, for me, just getting out of Portland on Boxing Day was tough. The night before it looked like the bridges over the Willamette could be frozen, so I booked a cheap hotel room near PDX for late night arrival on the 25th. I made a shuttle reservation from the hotel for 5:20 for a 7am flight which was 45 minutes late. There was a huge line at baggage check in, but I was able to find a kind attendent to move me to the front of the line to check in, and made it on the plane with a good 7 minutes to spare.
Boxing Day was work on bike day in @BoltBreaker's garage. Every few hours we checked the weather forecast and it changed every time. We decided that the mostly industrial route from Berkeley to Napa was just junk miles, so we rerouted Day 1 over the Richmond San Rafael Bridge over to Larkspur. The new SMART train took us to Novato, shaving 20 miles of rainy riding off our schedule. Day 2 from Santa Rosa to Thor's place off of King's Ridge via the Russian River got modified slightly to get us away from traffic on River Road. On Day 3 flat tires got us off our schedule, the last few miles into Tomales made us glad to have brought good lights - but then we found out that the restaurant we planned to eat at in Tomales wasn't open that evening. @BoltBreaker ran across the street and talked the deli in town to stay open late, where we bought 4 sandwiches, three large bags of chips, 8 beers and one ginormous cookie for dinner. Even though I'd ridden around the Pt. Reyes area many times in the past, @davester turned into a harbor pilot and showed us not just one, but two shortcuts that I'd never been on before. When Andy's first choice for a celebratory burger and beer was closed, we found another one. Best burger and beer ever.
I'll wait for my co-conspirators to add in details and more pix, but for now, here are some of my samplers.

Thor is made of tougher stuff.
