You're welcome.

And I just came across this seductive CIOCC ad in the same issue:

The little blurb about SLX vs. SL was interesting. I have an SLX Serotta and it's the second stiffest steel frameset in my stable (being beat by my modern Colnago).

Of course there are other factors involved but the SLX in a 56cm seems to be stiffer. It wasn't confirmation bias, because at the time, I assumed that the SLX was a "thinner/lighter" tubeset than SL so the expectation was for a more lively frame.

Agreed. The difference between my 70s SL frame and my late 80s SLX frame is pretty noticable. I'm shocked that guy was breaking frames every 2 months. I just can't imagine how that's possible at 175lbs.

I'll agree to. I've always felt like my SLX bikes were stiffer than the SL ones. Some of the SL frames and some of the 531 ones are the ones I've had that I thought were too flexy at times.

My SLX -tubed 1990 Concorde Aquila felt more springy and responsive than my SP-tubed 1989 Colnago Super Piu but there were a number of differences. Size (Concorde was 64 cm vs 61 cm for Colnago), geometry, time and my fitness (I got hit by a car wrecking the Concorde and was in worse physical shape when I got back on the Colnago), and fork (Colnago has original steel, Concorde had carbon replacement) among other things, so it's really an apples to pineapples difference.
