I did see it. Not to buy it but just to admire and talk bikes (and guitars). But I will say the Gios is in lovely shape. I know squat about them and am hesitant to suggest what I think is a realistic price since I am not buyin anyway. For anyone who is interested, yeah it looks lovely. Could not ride it with crackly old tires on it but if looks could kill…. But I think I overpaid for a local de Rosa and that was 27% of this…. Am I way off?

Seems overpriced to me but then I'm not a Gios expert. The ad seems to suggest the sew ups are in decent shape yet you say they were unrideable. And it needs a "tune up". Those two things alone would give me pause.

The guy is most assuredly swinging for the fences with this one unless it has some kind of provenance (once owned by Gerald Ford?? IDK )
Beautiful bike , but i was under the impression that Gios was on the "second tier" in the Italian bike hierarchy ---- DeRosa, Cinelli, Colnago, Some Masi's on the top step (I wont even go into stuff like Confente's and Galmozzi's - rarefied air there) ,
with Gios being just below, along with makes like ciocc and Basso
However, i always give people the benefit of the doubt on pricing as it could be one of those
"No sweetheart! I'm working on clearing up space in the garage for your Mercedes, but nobody seems to be calling! Must be this darn inflation " type of scenarios
But for $3100 , shouldnt the brake levers have hoods ?

\....Gios bikes show up pretty regularly here in the Bay Area. Here's one that's been listed on CL for a couple of months. I've never thought of them as second tier, but the one here, at $1600, is about the highest asking price I've seen, and it comes backed by a reputable bike shop that deals in classics here.

In my opinion Gios bikes were never ever second tier.....However that one is very overpriced,,,,,700 to 1200 is my opinion.

When I found and purchased the Pinarello Montello, my selling point to my other half was that I could flip it at a profit.
I ended up really liking the bike and put it on CL for what I wanted. Overpriced for the market. Got a number of calls but didn't budge on the price in order to state I tried to sell it but no one was willing to pay the price.
Could be the same situation here.
OTOH, since when is there a 27" sewup?
I would not consider this 2nd tier either. One of these is on my bucket list for the stable.

I'd pay that much for this bike - if it had ironclad provenance that Roger De Vlaeminck won Paris-Roubaix on it. Otherwise . . . . no. If I was totally jonesing for a cobalt blue Gios (to go with my wool Brooklyn jersey) and it was my size (it isn't), I might go as high as $1,500.

Very nice but in IMHO it is $700-$900 at best considering it will need some high cost tires and or maybe wheel set to be a rider myself if a buyer I would want $500-600.

You're likely absolutely correct -- I had the impression they were priced more in line with a Ciocc or a Basso
Most of my riding experience with Italian bikes is on a pair of DeBErnardi's i've had for a long long time. When i finally got the money to dabble around with a couple of vintage DeRosa's and a Colnago , i really thought it would be an eye opener but it turned out that the wheelset i chose any particular day had more an effect on ride quality than what name was on the frameset
