recommendations tubeless 700c x 28 road tire

Hi Bike-Forum-ers! It’s time to replace my tubeless 700x28c Continental 5000 TL’s. I use dt Swiss R5000 db wheels.

I'm city riding style. Our asphalt roads are in decent shape, though it varies. Often, due to traffic I'm to the side of the road with sharp objects. Rarely, less than 5%, do I find myself on gravel.

Can you please offer opinions the choices below?
  • Another set of Continental 5000 TL’s,
  • Panaracer AGILEST TLR FOLDING ROAD TIRE
  • VITTORIA RUBINO PRO TLR TUBELESS ROAD TIRE
Thanks in advance.

Want to go fast? GP5000 S TR. You won't find any new TLs in 28mm unless you run into a hoarder.

Afraid of puncturing in a way that your sealant won't seal? Pirelli Cinturato Velo.

Continental stopped manufacturing the GP5000 TL and have replaced it with the GP5000 S TR.

I've made this switch from TL to S TR and I am now happy with the change.
The GP5000 S TR are easier to install on the rim.
However, it appears that in reducing the weight of the S TR, they have made the tire more reliant on the brand/type of sealant when being used Tubeless.
With some sealants the S TR appears to leak through the sidewall of the tire. I had to switch my sealant from Stan's to Orange Seal Regular to avoid this issue. <<Click for Thread on the subject.

If you are not using the tires Tubeless, then the regular clincher GP5000 (not TL or S TR) is a good option and prices right now are low.

All the best

Barry

I have to admit the GP5000 S TR is the nicest tire I have ridden so far, but it's also $$$. I have not been very happy with flats on any Vittoria tires (Rubino Pro or Corsa G2.0), although they just made a new Corsa (N.EXT) with allegedly better flat protection and I just haven't been interested in gambling with another high dollar tire. American Classic Timekeeper is noticeably less expensive and is so far resisting flats even better than the Contis, albeit with a little less ride quality.

I have really enjoyed Pirelli Race TLR tires. I have them setup tubeless and they have handled my commute that I normally run marathon supremes or gator skins for. If you are more worried about punctures I think the Pirelli Cinturatos are a solid option. My wife has them on her bike. Not as fast as the Race but puncture protection equivalent to marathon supremes.

I'm still on Schwalbe Pro One TLE tires. Next change, I'm going to give something else a try but I've been happy with the Pro Ones...
