Found a 1980s Specialized Sequoia today.

This was in a second hand store that specializes in appliances nearby. It was in pretty decent shape ,paint was good and no rust but had a flat rear tire.
All major components looked original with Suntour Cyclone 2 derailleurs. They were asking $200 for it but probably would
have taken $150. It was just a tad too big for me at 60cm. I have 2 60 cm bikes I ride but this one seemed a tad taller. I think it may be a 1984 by
the serial #. It was marked Made in Japan.

$200 is a deal for that bike. 1984 for sure. It looks very original and in great shape!

That bike appears to be in great shape. Lately it seems great deals abound. Keep your eyes pealed and one will pop up in your size.

Wait! So you didn't buy it?! At that price, I'd buy it, pocket the long cage Superbe rear derailleur (if I'm not mistaken), and find someone else who would love to have that bike.

I love my '82 Sequoia. I wish it had a third set of bottle cages like that one does.

Agreeing with Andy. Buy it for $150. Now. Somebody here will take it off your hands.

Sweet deal, I don't see them come up often but they get lots of praise, I would jump on one at that $$ too.

Actually, relative to my ‘82 the third set is on the seat tube. I don’t have those. I have the set on the bottom of the down tube and it’s fascinating to see how precisely placed they are. Changing from the middle ring to the small ring it looks like the chain would hit the cage, but it doesn’t. I do have to use a short bottle to avoid hitting the fender on the front wheel though.

These were very nice bikes. Should be mentioned along with the other grail 80s tourers from the other thread.

Short bottles were all there were then, for the most part. I don't think anyone imagined the giant size bottles we have now.

The underside bottle cage was originally meant for carrying a fuel bottle, though obviously it could be used for extra water as well.

Found this thread today and found this Sequoia on Monday. Has not been kept in great shape, but I’ll bring it back to life. Looks to have had a few things changed. Later model Deore RD and high flange Campy Record hubs. Haven’t found the serial number yet, but thinking 85-87.

Seriously, did you buy it? That's a pretty, pretty bike, even if it's a foot and a half too tall for me.

Wouldn't that require a third pedal?......

You would need 2 more feet for this one. 68cm frame with a 38 inch stand over. The rider is a legit seven feet tall.

Sweet score!

The nicest, most high end sport/touring bikes ever. I wonder why this didn’t catch on?

A touch small for me as I prefer a 63, but I'd take that for the frame/fork in a heartbeat (even though I have a 87 Schwinn Voyager that's been waiting to be built up for a couple of years).

I facilitated the purchase of one of those for a guy on this forum. Here's the frame next to my Sequoia.
