SRAM X5 RD for 11-speed?
Hi everyone. Can I use an existing SRAM X5 rear derailleur for an 11-speed conversion just by swapping the accompanying X5 nine-speed shifter out for an 11-speed NX? So far as I know, all of these components sgare a 1:1/exact actuation cable pull ratio.

Thanks! Is there any other indexed shifter that will work, or do I need to go with an altogether different RD/shifter?

You will need the proper rear derailleur and shifter. If it were ten speed you were after you can find a friction shifter and probably make it work but not really with 11 too closely spaced.

You could go to 10 speed with your current derailleur and a GX 2x10 shifter. The 2x10 version is Exact actuation and the 11 speed versions are X actuation.
Note that the Max cog size for the X5 rear derailleur is 36t, so not a good option of you are switching to a 1x drivetrain.

If you want 11 speed SRAM, all of the shifters are X actuation, so you will need an X actuation rear derailleur.
