....but I couldn't resist rescuing another PX-10. '69, I think. Total basket case, frame quite rough, but sound. Seller planned to restore, but realized it was going to be a bigger job than he wanted to tackle. Came with the original Lux Comp/Monthlery tubular wheels and an early Dura Ace/Rigida clincher set, Campy Rally RD (reinforced drop parallelogram version), a 38t ring on the Stronglight 93 cranks, 'Dural Forge' Mafacs, and a set of new Velocal decals. I can appreciate a fair degree of 'patina', but I think this one is going to call for a repaint. Clear-coat wearing away on the chrome socks, but the chrome is really good underneath it.

Nice project. If it were mine I’d remove the clear coat over the chrome and go straight for the repaint on this. I might mask at least some of the original decals if they can be salvaged but if not I’m sure new transfers can be found. Are you gonna keep it white and black or try something else?

It surprises me to see "clear coat" referred to with respect to a 1969 Peugeot. I don't think that the 1972-ish PX-10 that I have has any clear coat. Also, it looks like there's white paint on the black lower head tube lug -- was the bike touched up by owner and clear coated?

Interesting comment about clear coat. By having a few early 70's and original bikes with chrome, it seems right around the 1973 or '74 timeline its more notable with clear on chrome. I would guess earlier all had a clear put over the artwork and transfers, just less so on the chrome??

I have a 70s era Peugeot PR 10 I restored. I was happily surprised that rustoleum flat white was a very good match for the paint on the bike. You might try brushing some of that one before you go the repaint route as you might like the results.

I absolutely LOVE my PX-10 650b, I just wish it were a size or so larger- I'm entering the phase of life where the bars incrementally, inexorably require raising..... And unfortunately this 'new' one is the same size! But I couldn't resist. Unsure what I'll do with it... On the one hand, the white is the iconic presentation, but then I really like the older blue-with-yellow lugs look. One positive about it being so cosmetically rough is I don't really feel like I have to 'preserve' much/anything about it.
The original wheels had a couple broken spokes, and I want to rebuild them anyway so I took 'em apart today. I was struck by how flexible the galvanized spokes are- straight gauge, 1.6 (at least per my crappy Harbor Freight caliper...). The tubular rims thankfully don't have a ton of glue residue on them, are in good shape and polished up really nicely on a test patch.

Probably, at least several of them! The PXN-10, the Super Course, the Trek 560, the Randonee for sure. The Trek 600 is so new to me, but probably pretty redundant.
I can't get rid of the Ironman, as the godfather sent me some parts for free for it and it would just be in bad form - plus it is a lovely riding bike. I like keeping the projects. Even the Paramount I have is going to collect dust.
The PX-10...well, that helped start the love affair that invariably led to the Huffy, so they are sort of like distant cousins, estranged family caught up in a blood feud.
Some bikes are definitely leaving. Huffy = quiver killer

A few more shots of the frame. Pretty crusty, and IMO the white doesn't wear patina well, so I'll repaint. Still don't know what I'll do with this one, build-wise.

Mentally playing around with ideas for this build.... This black drillium chainring (temporarily living on my Valgan) and these black hammered fenders from a bike I got rid of would look pretty nice on a B&W PX-10...... Also thinking maybe about trying some flat-ish bars on this one.... maybe.....

Yes, it's definitely had some touching up, here and there. Possibly it's even been repainted once before, though I don't think so. I don't know- maybe 'clear coat' isn't exactly the right term, but my '72 PX-10 (which is definitely original paint) also has some sort of coating on the chrome, too, that is sort of wearing off in places. The black on the lugs is scraped/peeled off in places.
Any number of types of "mouse milk" have been marketed for protecting bicycle, car, and motorcycle paint, since that bike was new. Whether any of they qualified as "clear coat," I don't know. But that frame is second half of the 1960s, so between 53 and 58 years old. Anything could have been done to the frame in that time interval.

BTW, I somewhat "modernized" mine--about the same vintage as yours, also white--and have a bunch of parts left over if you're interested--original seat, seatpost, stem (not original), shift levers, RD, brake levers . . .
