Addiction 2023.1

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Lots of rain today plus wind advisory means no ride today. Will try to do a recovery walk with mrs datlas between the storm fronts.

Daughter is going to the Taylor Swift show tonight at Cowboys stadium. The recommendation is to get there 5 hours early due to crowds in light at security checkpoints. That’s insane.

My shoe upper separated from the sole and my friend went into a store and got a roll of white tape and wrapped it up. You can see the white on my right foot as I'm stuffing my face.

Yesterday’s ride featured mostly strong crosswinds. One of my friends was on my wheel most of the day. He is small (maybe 5’6”) and has a very aero bike (Faktor something), so on the downhills he would frequently sidle me and even overtake me. I found it slightly annoying and called him on it. “You are a sidler! I may have to buy you tic-tacs”!(Seinfeld reference which he gets). He protested that he did not want to use his brakes or slow down as the course was rolling and he wanted to keep his momentum.

He is an otherwise nice guy, so I kept it light with recurring sidler jokes/references, but honestly he could have feathered his brakes and/or sat up a bit (wind brakes). None of the other riders are sidlers.

Could someone embed that? It’s a sidler clip.

All of my bikes are 58 except one? The cervelo was a 56 but I don’t have that anymore.

telling your passengers during the inflight PA that there are 6 hours left, when the flight is only supposed to last an hour didn’t go very well.

Another April Fools joke carried too far?

At least you did not tell them to prepare for an emergency landing.

They were probably thinking "Damn, I could've just went to a T-Swift concert instead of taking this dumb flight."

All I see is short sleeves and bare knees.

SoCal living.

Neoprene contact cement ought to fix that shoe.

Lick Observatory on Mount Hamilton, with a dusting of snow, from Kincaid Road

Virtually zero traffic, as lower Mount Hamilton Road is closed to vehicles.

Could have thrown some crazy weather in too. We'll be arriving in Miami at 8pm local time where it is currently 26° with 5mph winds from the southeast and scattered snow showers accumulations up to two inches.
