Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Wife and I had a fun evening last night of board games, beers (hard cider for her now that she can’t have gluten) and homemade paella.

Passed out at 11:15 that’s 5 consecutive years not making it to midnight.

Made it to midnight, thanks to the UGA/OSU game. My wife fell asleep on the couch so I woke her up at 11:55 and watched the ball drop while the game was on my tablet. First year in a while that we’ve made it to midnight!

Went to sleep about 10:15. Fireworks were already going, even though it was raining. I slept through the midnight explosions but Mrs J told me they were crazy. She said it was so foggy she couldn't see anything but flashes of light.
Time to ride.

We're night owls, so making it to midnight is easy. We had dinner with friends down the street. The husband is Cuban, so even though it was his birthday, he cooked, a tasty Cuban dish of chicken and rice, with olives and tomatoes. We celebrated New York New Years with them at 9, then came home and watched a new show till 11:40, when we alerted The Older Boy, so we could celebrate. Not much in the way of fire works. Probably no one could keep a match lit here, given we got 5" of rain yesterday!

I usually survive until midnight, but this year was surprisingly easier than past years. It was after one o'clock by the time we crawled into bed.

Was able to get just enough air in the tire to make it home.

While cleaning the bike I noticed my left crank arm was super loose. Not sure how that happened. I think I have the problem corrected.

Well, I'm getting ready for a ride, but I'm not sure how much riding I'll be able to accomplish. There are significant road closures all over the place, but I'm having trouble identifying where they all are. Wish me luck,

Roadies are invited to the commuting forum to log your junk miles riding to work. The commute mileage thread in 2022 suffered low participation, I think due to continued fallout from the pando. In the mid 2010s we'd have two pages of people but this year it was less than ten.

I went to the above location the Sunday after Thanksgiving. It was a zoo.

Coming this summer to nearby Sevier County. With all the tourist traffic that goes to the Smokies at that exit, it ought to be fun.

After my 2-flat ride ended in the call of shame the other day, I put a patch kit in the seat bag.

Luckily I've never had a Road Morph or Zefal frame pump remove a valve core, but I have had that happen with a Lezyne with screw-on chuck.

But you'd get a taste of one of America's great interstates: I-75. DougRNS

There was an abundance of vehicles on Knox County roadways on Friday, so not everyone has left yet.

I am more mad at the tube. To me it’s a stupid design, and guess who just bought 4 more of these stupid tubes.

This guy.

I hit glass, I never saw it. It was 50 degrees and damp and dark when I changed the first tube. I found one shard and assumed that did the deed, did not inspect my tire further. More becuase I was cold than anything. That bit me in the ass. I stopped to stretch, and whenever I stop I always grab my tires to check pressure, rear tire was squishy.
