I am now leaning toward mounting a small 1/8" thick aluminum plate (8"x10") on the canti mini-rack and then using this bag - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The belt strap mounting is more symmetrical than the other Shangri-La bag, and I think it will work well mounted to the stem tube.

Probably somewhere between the Rene Herse and the Shangri-La options might be a Carradice saddlebag, attached to the bars and the head tube? If the side pockets make it too wide, you can either unpick them (good if you find one secondhand) or ask the factory nicely to make you one without them.

...
When you said stem tube, I assume you mean the frame head tube. I think 1/8 inch aluminum plate is a bit overkill, but it it works you could find something lighter later.

Will you be disappointed in the rain, or do you have a plan for rain days? A rain cover can be simple. I did not open the Amazon link so I do not know if one is included, if so, great. Mine did not come with a rain cover, I later bought one elsewhere, see photo.

Good point, I will need a rain cover. Yes, sorry, I meant the head tube. Thanks.

If you want large capacity at a reasonable cost consider some of the bikepacking front rolls/packs.

https://www.apidura.com/shop/backcou...andlebar-pack/
https://www.apidura.com/shop/expedition-handlebar-pack/

Ortlieb also has a new front bag that has an expanding roll top
https://www.ortlieb.com/en_us/handlebar-pack-qr

But IMO it's hard to beat the Classic Ortlieb front bag if you are going to be to touring through towns and cities
because of it's simplicity and Klick Fix quick release which allows you to take the bag with you for even the
shortest times you might be away from your bike.

Pic found on the 'net: Carradice Barley (9L)

The Carradice Cadet (13L) is basically a Nelson without side pockets.

I suppose it would make sense for someone to make a rack like the handlebar bag supports several decades ago.

My old bag from the last century was designed for a quill stem, it did not fit on a threadless stem. I bought a piece of steel rod and bent it to fit for my old bag. Sprayed it black but a lot of the paint has chipped off of it.

Photos are over a decade ago from my first digital camera, a whopping three megapixels. (The memory card was measured in meg, not gb.)

That looks like a great rack, and would definitely do the job.. 90 Euros though.
