And he has his first geared bike! Never had training wheels. Took off with his dad and I and promptly went 8 miles. With a stop at a playground. Cyclekids 20 inch wheel, 8 speed. Have his next two bikes waiting for him to grow into.

My grandson was much the same at the same age. I took him out on their very quiet dead end road and tried. Held the back straps of his overalls to keep him from falling. Almost total failure: could not pick up the pedals, could not get balanced, could not create forward momentum. Ugh. But a start, eh.

Then something happened in his brain overnight. Got the bike out the next morning, threw his leg over and just took off down the driveway. Hasn’t stopped since.

Congrats - can see the ear to ear behind the camera.
Guessing 20" wheeled bikes are smallest where derailleurs get installed?

Recently upgraded a granddaughter from balance bike to pedal bike (no training wheels), a couple of months before 4th birthday. The biggest smile tho' came when her little sister (18months) took first steps straddling the balance bike.
