My New Daily Rider
Replaced my FX with this one, it's light,climbs well and rides very comfortably over rough roads. I was apprehensive about using a MTB but the hybrid was just too rough a ride , this is working out well. This is not really built for any serious mountain bike riding, but fits the bill as a daily rider very good without breaking the budget, I like it.

I think due to the quality of components. Altus and Tourney are not really there in the quality department they are their for price. Plus quick releases and coil shocks make it not an ideal modern mountain bike. Fine for putting around and light trails and has the looks but it wasn't really designed or intended for heavy usage. Certainly looks nice minus the massive Trek logo but that is something they carry over from their highest end stuff as well so not unexpected but the paint is well done.
I will say it will do better than a wally-mart bike but it was built for casual folks which is fine.

Went out for about 15 miles yesterday, bike rides very "light" brakes solidly, no surprises. Did a few trails creek-side, and it handled bumps and loose stuff with ease. On the pavement it's fast with the 29" wheels. I didn't touch anything on it from the shop, checked the air pressure and made sure the wheels were tight, nothing else. The build quality is very good, not a scratch on it, no bad hardware, anything loose or rattling, the way a new bike should be. I wanted to be sure I snagged a bike early, the shop had a good selection of models, sizes and colors way better than last year.

Those colors remind me of the color choices we had with mountain bikes in the 80’s. I had a Specialized that was magenta pink, bright blue and pearl white. I rode the snot outta that bike and loved every minute of it. I strongly recommend you do the same with your new Trek.

I know what you mean, I have all kinds of "wheeled" machines, bicycles, e-bikes, recumbent bikes, recumbent trikes, electric scooters and motorized bicycles.
