Our Calfee Tetra is 12 years old today

12 years ago today our Calfee Tetra frame assembly arrived by Fed Ex. We drove to the local Fed Ex distribution center and picked it up that morning. By late afternoon I took it for a short test ride around the block.

65,000 miles later it is still performing great, original frame fork and front eccentric. It is still a great bike and I hope we are still enjoying it for at least another 12 years.

Friends of ours from Texas have a Calfee tandem of probably similar vintage. They were on a California tour with it recently and came to stay with us for a few days afterwards. They wanted to visit the Calfee facility just an hour drive from our house and so we all met Craig Calfee there, who was very generous with his time that day. He’s a brilliant polymath and a kind gentleman. I’ve come close to buying one of his tandems, but got diverted by a deal too good to refuse on our Speedster, which at least has a Calfee stoker stem made by Craig himself. But if and when the time comes to move on, it will be to a Calfee.

65,000 miles. <vadervoice> Impressive.

On a per-mile basis, you certainly received your money's worth. Our Santana only has somewhere over 4,000 on it equaling out to something near 50¢ per mile (so far), but you can't put a price on all the good times we've had on that bike.

May you have many more miles under your wheels.
